93 Turbo Wagon - Barely Runs?

Post by Scrub »

Ok, I Traded a beat up mustang for this 93 Legacy wagon Turbo with an automatic.

When I start it cold it seems to start ok and idles good but when I hit the gas at all it seems VERY sluggish, when i try to drive, it hardly will get moving from a stop when i hit the gas and some times it will stall out completely, and will not start without me holding the throttle down somewhat. when it does get moving it seems like it has no power and seems like it starts missing after about 3500rpm.

The previous owner took out the stock airbox and put in some crap from autozone with a filter on it.

When it is running and I unplug the MAF it just dies.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Matt

Only when cold? Temp sensor. Always? Tune up—plugs, wires, filter.

Thanks for the Welcome.

Where is the temp sensor located so I can check/replace that?

Any other things that might be causing my issues?

The coolant temp sensor on the turbo cars is on the driver's side of the coolant crossover pipe. It's kind of a pain to replace, but if it's original, probably worth replacing. They're about $20 from some of the online subaru dealers.

Here's a pic of the sensor, it's kind of hard to see. It has the brown colored connector, just to the left of the throttle body.

Id tackle it like this, replace temp sensor, inspect knock sensor wiring/replace knock sensor, and does your speedometer work? Then proceed with resetting ecu.

My speedo does not work, I think the cable is broken, but I can worry about that one later.

Called my stealership here in town and they want $39.48 for the Temp Sensor and $108.73 for the knock sensor.

So I'm looking for some more decent prices first then I can start replacing parts.

I use www.subarugenuineparts.com pretty regularly and have been happy with their prices.
