Ok so I banged up my l/h pax mirror pretty good today morning but luckily the damage was only on the trim part of the mirror housing( the part that you guys paint to match body color. How can I remove that to fix it?
While on this topic my motors (retracting side mirrors) dont move at the same speed. How can I rememdy or service them and have them back to spec.?
Great forum this is.

Re: Side mirrors
remove the triangle trim in the inside of the window. you'll also have to remove the door panel (plenty of writeups on that) to access the 3 screws holding the mirror to the door. once the screws are removed, then off it comes. Trying to take off the mirror from the motor, I wouldn't recommend (it snaps into place). Just go to a junkyard and get a replacement.

Re: Side mirrors
Thanx for the reply. The junkyard replacement is out of the question as we really dont have those here. Also from what you say I cannot repair that plastic bit, I would have to replace the whole mirror? For a crack on the black trim surrounding the mirror itself? Dont want to remove the motor, just to service it or something..It takes like two extra seconds for it to retract/extend the mirror on the L/H side than it does on the R/h side.

Re: Side mirrors
Well you can go ahead and try to take the mirror out... but good luck not cracking it. Anyways with that out of the way, then you can 'service' it or swap out mirror plastic shells.
The windows slow on that side of the car per chance too?

Are you talking about the shell? What does the crack look like? I'd venture a guess that you could plastic weld it. The mirror glass itself should be replaceable. Some auto parts places even carry replacement glass for some models in stock. If that's cracked, you break it out with a screwdriver or something and the new one takes its place. IIRC (this is 15 years ago), it was either self-adhesive or was held on with double sided tape.

Re: Side mirrors
I was successful in removing the glass by aiming a hair dryer at it for about 5 minutes. Peels right off, but be careful as the glass is HOT.

Re: Side mirrors
think i need pix to explain but these are different problems.
1. The outer trim piece is cracked ( the piece that you would paint to have the mirrors fully body colored)
2. The mirror is slower in its motorized functions (always was even before my lil mishap)
therefore Im not trying to replace the mirror- its fine..Just the immediate plastic piece.
Is the motor in the mirror casing or in the door?

Motor is in the mirror's casing behind the glass. I think you'll still need to remove the glass, though.Elcapitan wrote:think i need pix to explain but these are different problems.
