i had a similar problem with idle oscillation in a '94 2.2 at cold start. after starting the car, it would rev to 2500 or so, then back down to 600 repeatedly. this was due to a sticking idle air control valve. to fix, i pulled the large air hose from the intake pipe, poured in some sea-foam and let it sit. i then started the car and poured in a little more while the engine was running.

that was 70k miles ago. no problems since.

I guess I should have been more clear. I was referring to the fat screw on the top of the TB

So have you adjusted any of the throttle body stop screws?

Hmmm.....since disconnecting the connector to the IAC valve caused the idle to drop, I'd suggest checking the wiring from the ECU's "closed" pin, F47.1 to the IAC valve and make sure it has 0 ohms resistance.

What is the part # for the MAF you are using?

I have not adjusted any stop screws, as the manual says not too.

Im using the 1998 SUFARU FORESTER 2.5 maf P/N 226800-AA160 R60, GREEN LABEL NUMBER 7903A
-
Note: when i have the 98 Maf in its doing the 3k rev.
-
I had in eariler the 1992 SUBARU LEGACY 2.2 MAF P/N 226800-AA160, R60, GREEN LABEL NUMBER 3114A

Note: When i had the 92 Maf in, it did the same thing as bry

I Swapped in the 98 Maf as i thought the reason for the waving idle was a bad 92 MAF.

I ve obviously got a few things to test so i ll post back this weekend after checking out resistance readings, seafoam, scantool etc..

Thank you again !

Yeah those MAF's are pretty much the same MAF.

Well let us know when you do some testing this weekend.

Well, i had the chance to test some things this weekend,

I swapped the 98 IAC back in to test with the 98 MAF and now the idle is near steady at 1500ish, at best.

I ran it in D-check mode following instructions and and the only cels reported after 1 minute are 42 and 52 repeated.

-

When I had the 92 MAF and 98 IAC together eariler, i must have not connected the IAC well enough electrically, thus attributing the oscillation to the IAC. instead of the sh!ty MAF.

The 98 MAF works well with the 98 IAC, no Cels with the black connectors connected.

In D check mode, it is only 42, and 52 repeating, - Idle switch and parking switch.

-

Note: this is reporting with the wire from ECU pin 20 /B48 removed.

So I'll reattach it again and test again, thats next -up.

Test and/or adjust the TPS according to the 3rd scan I posted to correct the idle switch problem.

I will, thank you, - also I neglected to mention the idle is *perfect* with the green connectors connected - Its actually below normal, as I adjusted that Big screw eariler - inward/clockwise - so the idle is around 500-750 with the green connectors connected.

When I take the green connectors apart and back to 1500-1750.

I will test the TPS when the rain stops.
