When I was doing cell sites, I used to watch from the ground as people got paid less than me to do tower work. Smaller towers, but no elevators, so they were longer climbs. Even at only a few hundred feet, the weather is usually different up there. It could be misting on the ground, but the tower guys would come down with icicles hanging off of them. I soon learned not to pick up garbage bags—those are their toilets. What linemen do is even more insane. I've watched them get brought in by helicopter and seen them step off the skid to a pole's crossbeam like stepping out the front door in the morning. One false move with big power is instant death. I have nothing but respect for the people (who aren't on drugs) who climb towers. Me? I hate heights. High rise roof tops were enough for me.

Holy shit. Fuck that. That video was hard for me to watch. I couldn't do that job if I wanted to. Once I get over a certain height and get near the edge it feels as if gravity is tugging on me trying to pull me over. How much do these guys get paid? Whatever it is, it's not enough.

Some guys we had on the few hundred foot towers here we got from down south. From what I heard, we were paying them $12/hr. and they smoked it all in meth (or however you consume that shit). More local guys, I heard were making about $60k a year. I HOPE that was base pay and they got overtime. We did a lot of work at night and in winter, too. I don't know what the guys climbing the guy wire towers as high as the one in the video make, but the owner of one of our gypsy contractor crews who said he climbed those (and how they'd look down at clouds in some of them) mentioned paying his guys $20/hr.

"Hello boss? I just realized I have a fear of hights and wont be able to work today"

I'm with Kimo. You couldn't pay me enough to do that. Just watching the video was bladder loosening enough!
