Not knowing what everything is called I am asking for help. I bought a 1993 Legacy wagon with an automatic transmission. It lost spark and I towed it to get it looked at but did not know to disengage the AWD with the fuse. Now it is a FWD car only, if the front wheels slip enough the rear will engage with a loud/hard clunk then disengage again quickly. Not wanting to go to a shop blindly what am I looking at? The car has 220,000 but runs great otherwise. It actually has more snap than my 1996 Legacay with only 126,000 on it.
Can this be fixed without removing the transmission? What would I be looking at fixing?

Welcome to the BBS.
The rear tail housing and likely the rear clutch packs specifically are what probably got damaged. The rear tail housing can be removed with the trans still in the car. So assuming nothing else in the trans is messed up, new rear clutch packs should be the first place to look.
Also, since the FWD fuse does keep the trans in FWD, then the duty c solenoid is probably still good.
Lastly, putting a fuse in the FWD fuse holder while towing would not have made any difference. Assuming the car was off, there would have been no power going to the duty c solenoid to allow the rear end to spin freely. Subarus need to be towed with all four wheels off the ground.

You could probably get the tail housing off with average mechanical skills. Here are some scans giving a little more info on the AWD system and some pictures of what needs to be removed.

Took it to a shop to have them look at it. I was told that the right rear wheel bearing is bad. Would this be the cause to my AWD slipping problem?
