My oe cassette deck is dead and I want to install a single DIN head unit. According to Crutchfield they recommend using the oe brackets, filing the oe bezel for fit and replacing the 2" pocket with a 3" pocket. I priced the 3" pocket from Subaru and it ain't cheap! Has anyone found an installation kit that includes a blank or a new pocket?
Maybe someone has a 3" pocket and cover they'd like to sell? I don't really have time to scour the junkyards looking for one. TIA.

Put a thread in the parts shed WTB a pocket. The install is called an ISO mount so make sure what ever radio you get had a removal trim ring. Not all radios can do this. They may call it "ISO mountable" All this means is that instead of installing the DIM cage and sliding the radio in from the front and locking it into the cage, you screw the radio to the factory bracket and remove the trim ring to the factory bezel will cover the opening.
I found my pocket at a junkyard after a bit of searching. You can make a plastic cover like some people do until you find a pocket if you want.

Re: Stereo install for 93 Legacy
I just confirmed that my Old DEH-400 is ISO mountable. I have some bits and pieces leftover from previous stereo kits so I'll see about making a temporary cover until I find a pocket and door for a reasonable price. Thanks for your help and great advice!
