New Subaru owner

Post by violet12877 »

I recently traded my Honda Passport for a 1995 Subaru Lagacy LS, 4dr awd. The legacy has a problem and i knew that going in. I need to replace the neutral safety switch. After several hours and 100 phone calls, I have found that I can not locate a the switch for that year, but the dealership says that the switch is interchangable with 89 to 04. Great! I found a 1992 legacy wagon 2wd. I'm wanting to know if all Subaru 2wd's are also awd with the click of a button that would be located on the shifter. The legacy I found is one that I can not look at myself and if they pull it and its the wrong one, I can't get my money back. So I need some help in trying to learn al I can about Subaru's. Thank you.

No Legacy in the US ever had selective 4WD. It's either permanent 4WD or permanent 2WD.

Your car is A/T, right? I believe what you're calling the neutral safety switch is also called the inhibitor switch (does the car have problems getting out of Park?).

In that case, they are NOT all interchangeable... there are quite a few production date breaks for that part for the second-gen Legacy.

PM me.

Welcome to the BBS.

Did Michael help you out with the inhibitor switch?

I did get it figured out thank you. And no it did not have problems coming out of park. I just dies when when your driving it, which i believe is due to the speed sensor being bad. I replace the switch yesterday so today i am replacing the speed sensor. Thank you

Yeah, the ECU is not happy and does some weird stuff without the speed sensor working. Hopefully that will fix things.
