hello guys.
i just had a timing belt, clutch at the workhop. i then drove the car for a 40 miles, and then i changed oil and filter on it. i started it up later that night with only some coughing. oil pressure rised to 4 bar immediately. minus 14 celcious outside. it idled very nice for a while until i turned it off. exhaust looked normal.
but the next day, the car would start up, and then die seconds later. then i changed to a k&n air filter, added a mikayo fuel filter. still no start, only cranking. starter works very nicely.
when i crank it, i hear a "poof" sound once after 3 rotations i think, instead of it starting up it just says poof on every third "crank sound" sorry for my bad english.. so my guess is that it gets one cylinder-ignition, and then no more. i think this poof sound is the sound of an ignition.
the car gets fuel to the filter, we tested that. that was before we attached the mikayo fuel filter to it. my battery has been fully loaded up, and the light on it is green. no CEL codes stored. i dont know how old the plugs are, but it started up without too much coughing before i changed the oil and filter.
When i bought the car, it was an old code stored, namely 11, crank sensor. i think this might be the culprit. but im also afraid that the mechanic failed with the timing belt attachment. i really, really dont hope thats the problem.
do you guys have any inputs? it has been minus 19 degrees celcius at worst here. but its around minus 3 at nighttime these days.
edit: this is my old thread with my old, deleted codes http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44259

I would focus on what was recently worked on, specifically the timing belt. It's possible the tensioner was not put back on properly and the belt may have jumped a tooth. That would be one of the first things I'd check, that and confirming it has spark.

+1 on checking the timing belt. Also might want to look into that crank code. A bad crank sensor would prevent the car from starting as well.

thanks for your inputs guys.
how would i know if my ECU is blown? will my car show it in some way, lamps or sounds? ive tried to google it for a while now but i cant find any good answers on that. perhaps you guys have experienced something before?
christmas and work has been hard on me the last month and i havent had time to do a shit. my car has been in a warm garage for 2 weeks at my dads job.
tomorrow, me and some guys are gonna pull plugs and check for spark. the car cranks fast and nice, no battery problems, but not ignition, just the random "cough" from it. we are also filling up the gas tank tomorrow.
and ive been very, very stupid the last 4 months. ive had my car with almost no gas in it for that period. and it has gone from very warm weather, to very cold weather, and it has been in and out of garages. im also considering that my fuel system could be full of condense, which has also been frozen inside the fuel system. it has been very cold here for a while, but not for the last 2 weeks.
dont you think this could be a theory?
the damn engine ran so smooth the last time i started it before i made this thread, so nothing inside it can be broken. had a nice oil pressure too. . it was fuckin cold outside too, but it started after some cranking. like, when you breathe hard with your nose, you could feel your snot freezing up.
still no start, but i havent had time to troubleshoot it either
need my baby home soon, so i can try all the stuff ive learned from this forum and the web. im really happy for your answers, even if i seem not willing to try out anything or ignorant, hehe. i need a hard kick in my ass.
happy new year from keelhaul (with this big post)

If the check engine light comes on with the key in the "ON" position, then the ECU is likely ok.

thanks.
the car is running now, smoother than ever. it was in a garage for the last 3 days, and we filled 5 gallons of fuel one of the first days.
thanks again for your support! just as the snow is pouring down again! winter, here i come!
