Master cylinder replacement or rebuild original?

Post by ericem »

Hey guys comparing prices and amazingly found the master cylinder is only $40 and the rebuild kit is $40!! So I am curious can I actually rebuild the MC without removing it? Can't I technically just pull out the plunger from inside the car and have something ready to collect the fluid? I will drain move the fluid out first though but I am just saying. What do you think??

Just get the whole MC or repair original? Thanks!

Currently clutch pedal feels horrible I need to constantly readjust it and I can obviously see the MC is leaking within the cabin.

I'd just buy the new one. Ive never heard of being able to rebuild one but withe the right stuff im sure rebuilding alot of stuff is possible. If i were u id just buy the new one, its only $40. Alot easier that way too.

I've used the replacement kit on mine and it made a world of difference. Sure, you could do the replacement w/o removing the MC body, but not going to be fun working in the cramped space. Hardest thing will be getting this c-style clip in/out

You won't be able to rebuild the MC in the car. It's not going to happen.

I've used one of those generic new MC's off ebay and haven't had any problems with it. It's been in several years.
