Td04 questions and set up tips

Post by Subiel94 »

Ok I'm getting a td04 hopefully I'll get it in this week. But ok I know I need the 90 degree turn for the front of the turbo( sorry don't know to much about turbos.) and I found these elbows name brand is black works, will any of the 3 90 degree elbows work on http://www.andysautosport.com/subaru/19 ... ks_racing/ here? If so has anyone run these before? Do they work good? Also I had a 94 legacy if that helps any.
Thanks!

You will likely need a short radius elbow to clear the intake manifold. Hopefully someone else can chime in with any direct experience on those elbows.

As noted above you'll want a short radius/tight turn like this.:

Those in your link will work but may rub the intake manifold.

Remember, the stock VF11 has a 'clocked' outlet to the throttle body....you'll have to account for that.

You have a fair amount of extra plumbing ahead of you, so Please read as many of posts of the TD04 - TMIC installs on here as you can....you don't have to have a TMIC but w/the TD04 it's a good idea.

Ok I already have a tmic. On my stock turbo. So will I need to change anything going to that? Or just that 90 degree elbow?

Do you know what I mean by the VF11 being 'clocked', if not please read up on that too...it'll affect how the TMIC connects.

So what I need to do is change the plumbing to the tmic and that front piece of the turbo correct? What if I got a y pipe from a newer wrx with the td04 and installed it on my car would that work?

Yes, you'll have to get a 02-05 WRX y-pipe. Please search as many have documented their TMIC installs and parts used (including me).

so i finally got on a actual computer and now i fully understand what you mean about clocked and where the elbow goes and everything. so what size diameter do i need to get like will this one work? http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_ ... ff6f0efe9b im on a tight budget. and i cant see spending 65 or whatever it is if i can find something just as good for cheaper. but if i cant then i guess ill have to fork up the money...

I hav another question the coolant lines and I think oil lines have washers. Off the td04 are they copper or brass? If copper where can I get them?

+1 on siliconeintakes.com they rock for everything silicone. I used the one you have pictured for the intake side of the turbo and one of thier 2 inch ones for the other 90 (for the air leaving the compressor side that goes to the y pipe). The y pipe i used was made from OBX, i got it off someone on nasioc for 20 bucks.

Yeah they both have copper washers on both sides of the banjo bolt. Since the td04 i got didnt have any of these lines i just used the ones that came off the vf11 which also has these washers and swapped over the whole line. Coolant and oil.

Yeah I got a kit on eBay with everything. It was a really nice kit. And yeah siliconeintakes.com is a great stuff. I got the plastic ypipe on mine still. I wish silicone intakes would sell the y pipes. I'd buy it for sure.
