93 4eat doesn't have reverse

So I bought the car without reverse for $600 wanting to fix it up. So my reverse works when the car is cold but there is no power it just sorta rolls back. Should I just try and find a tranny from a junk yard or look into a rebuild if that's an easier way to go? Also I'm looking at doing this for a senior project and not taking it to a shop.

Hello! You may want to fill us in on the legacy. For starts, is it manual or auto? mileage, how you check the transmission fluid?

It's an auto with 174k and changed the tranny fluid and filter when I bought the car around 168k

Unless you have the knowledge about automatic transmissions I'd highly recommend looking to get a replacement transmission.

I think it'd give you good experience to open the current trans, but the chances of something getting damaged, misplaced, or installed incorrectly when disassembling/assembling is very likely.
