Lifting my 97' Legacy

Post by TBFK »

Hello. I have a 1997 Legacy LSi that I want to lift. It's an automatic. I've been searching the web for ideas and lift kits. But i'm coming up dry. I don't have a lot of money, so i'm looking for a cheap way to get a few inches. Does anyone have any ideas or any directions to point me in?

Welcome to the BBS.

Outback struts are going to be your cheapest solution. There's several threads talking about this. I'd suggest searching in this forum.

Thanks

Thats what i've been seein. I've been researching for about a week or two, and everyone is sayin the same thing. but it sounds to easy. So what i've gathered, is that all i need is the struts from an OB and no other parts what so ever?

Struts from a similar year Outback is really all you need. You may get a little more lift with the outback springs. If you can find an entire strut, spring, tophat setup, that'd make swapping things a lot easier.

A tophat is the part that supports the top part of the spring and secures the strut to the car.

There's a couple threads with pictures I think.

Here's some from my car. The first two pictures show the mounts.

Actually those in the second pic are for the rear. They are a combined mount and upper spring perch/keeper. On the newer cars, the strut mount and spring perch/keeper are two separate pieces.

In the first pic you can see the bearings in the mounts. These are for the fronts and have separate mounts & spring perches.
