The Bro Den Update

Post by magicmike »

Original thread: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=42753

Well guys,

I'd like some feedback before I kill this thing for good.

The site never really took off and my partner basically disappeared after a couple of months of trying to gain interest with the site. At least for me everything is in my name and we don't have a contract because we weren't expecting any revenue to come until we threw some ads on the site. At any rate, the site seems to have failed and I didn't get to the cutoff in time due to my procrastination so the url and hosting got renewed basically sticking me with this site for another year.

What are your thoughts? Should I tweak something that really sucks about the site to make it more appealing?

Should I throw a little money into trying to market the site? (never done before)

Should I just kill the site and call it a day?

It was a lot of work and I still believe it was a really good premise that is pretty original since I saw nothing else like it when I developed it.

I hate to kill it but there is really no need to keep supporting it with zero return. I'd keep it up if people were still active on it but all action has ceased for some time now.

What do you all think?

Mike,

I think the biggest thing is marketing it to an interested crowd. You can pull a few people here and there from other forums or sources on the web, but it doesn't sound like it's gathered a "regular" following, which you need.

I'm not sure what it would take to get to that point to build your regulars, probably a bit of marketing and time. Unfortunatley, it would require time and money on your part to keep it going. That is something you would have to decide on. Something to keep in mind.....I believe you were possibly in a different spot when you decided to create the site vs. where you are now. So I think it would be a good idea to look at the original reasons why you first created the site and see if those reasons are still valid/good, and/or if you still have the passion to keep it going. I think that may help you answer your own question.

Yeah, I hear you Josh. I'm actually in the process of working on my new next big thing :) I guess it would be foolish to divert energy away from that to put into this. Speaking of my new idea, know any Java?

Honestly forgot all about it. I just discontinued my own website as well. Not apparently getting me sales, so it's not worth it. Wish I knew how to market to people who don't like to be marketed to and we'd both be more successful.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Thats what makes facebook such a great idea. Its a marketing masterpiece. People come to you with all of their personal information and then you collect it all and sell it to advertisers. Genius, although in the movie social network they dont actually come out and say that and make it seem as thought it isn't about money...

I'm mostly programming illiterate :)

I can muddle around with basic code to see what's going on....but writing it from scratch = fail!
