17x9 with 42 offset

Post by macipusy »

Anybody ever get a 17x9 42 offset wheel to work on their Legacy? Would this work with rolled fenders or is the offset just too much?

I would love to make that size work with out major body modifications. I would also like to keep the car lowered as is, or even more.

I guess I could invest in rear adjustable lateral links and good coilovers to make it work.

bmxkelowna....what size tire do you run on the 17 rims. How negative is your camber....probably super aggressive....yes?

Depending on how low you set your suspension that might be a hard fit on your legacy. I have 17x8 with 48 offset running 225/45/17 tires on my legacy. It's lowered quite a bit and I ended up having to raise it to fit them even with mild fender rolling.

I think with 42 offset and another inch wider you're going to run into problems. 42 offset will put the tires out even further won't it?

Yes, 42 would be 6mm further out, plus .5" from the extra width, so that'd be an extra 17mm of poke, ~3/4", Might fit with 205s with some fender rolling, or 225s and some major rolling, 205s will probably have a pretty good stretch which would look odd if it wasn't slammed(which brings up more rolling issues).

btw your car looks awesome kimo, love the contrast.

try this too how much out they will be from your currant wheels gives you a good idea what kinda stretch you'll need to keep the rubber under the fenders

I was just curious. I will probably end up with a set of Rota Grids or Rota Boost, both 17x8 and 48 offset. I will most likely do 220/45R17 tires.

I want to go lower then you Kimo....which means I will have to do some more aggressive negative camber

That or massive fender rolling. I think I'm at -2 in the back and -1.75 in the front but I don't remember for sure.

I was thinking about getting 17X9 Rota Grids too. My plan is just to cut out the fenders, and then add fender flares. That way, I can have thick tires and keep the negative camber to a minimum.

17x8 with a +45 is just about flush to the fenders. im running a 245-40-17 and it looks aggressive and the tires arent stretched and stupid looking.

17x8 +45 225/45/17 definitely hits the fenders if you lower it and don't roll the fenders out. My car was an inch or so lower than it now sits in the picture above and it was hitting when I put those wheels on and I had to raise it to it's current stance just for it to be able to sit without hitting. I didn't try to drive it before rolling the fenders so I'm not sure if it would hit but I'm guessing it would have.
