I was making an inquiry of Joseph at Flat4Engineering/Mike Shaw Subaru regarding some parts and he said he is helping someone install one of those in the near future on a Turbo Legacy. He used to have a 350hp one and his brother still drives one, so I trust his opinions on such things (and they were involved in Garcia's 450hp RS-T drag car with an EJ22-T bottom end).
I'll see what details I can get when it happens.

New ones are gonna be a super-high price. Eventually there will be enough wrecked ones around to grab for a more reasonable price. Upgrades for WRX top mounts run $800-1100 also.
Ya, I bet it will be a while before the XT coolers start floating around. I havnt seen any aftermarket coolers for em yet. And most likely the Forrester crowd wont be doing high performance mods.
Yeah,
but he works for a dealer. You can get an XT/STi EJ257 shortblock for $1400 new from most any dealer. If you have a part number why wouldn't you be able to order one of those?

I'm sure that the price he quoted (a little above $800) is just above his cost. Joe is a good guy to work. You can pretty much count on his price being the best.

I wasn't challenging Joe's price, more surprised by it. I haven't talk to Joe much, YET, but my initial encounters and his reputation lead me to believe he is a good guy to work with. Plus both he and his brother have alrady tuned turbo Legacies, so they are a resource for that. And I've seen that they do in fact have the best price on the Invidia DP I am considering...
But I am still skeptical about the remarks above, that they are going to be hard to get. Maybe they haven't hit the dealers yet, but in a month or two when they do, anyone who knows the part number can go buy one. Or wait until the soccer moms start wrecking them. I know there are already a lot of these running around Boulder...
