Trans partially engaged in Neutral?

Post by Noah »

1995 legacy 2.2L

Ive adjusted my clutch (cable) to spec after repacing it. The feel is excellent. BUT

While im in neutral w/ the clutch out (pedal up) there seems to be drag as if it were trying to drive the car SLIGHTLY. Say i park so that the car would roll VERY slowly backwards if it were in neutral and i have the clutch pedal pushed in. I start to roll back SLOWLY and then when i release the clutch pedal the car stops rolling. This is occompanied by a softish grr noise that goes away when i push the clutch back in.

So why is NEUTRAL acting like i have selected a gear.....but only slightly. Problem seems worse when car is cold.

Only thing that i did NON OE spec was to use 80W-90 GL5 fluid...called for 75W. It has beeb F'ing cold.....this morning it did it BAD in the driveway then got to work and it was perfect sounding/feeling.

Good to go! ;)

Yeah it may be the thicker gear oil, especially with the colder temps.

I did some online reading and it sounds most probable.
