Looks, uh, big.

The car itself doesn't even look sporty to me. Hopefully the design changes or the toyota one is better. The ways its looking now they might as well call it the new legacy gt.

Wonder if it will come with an H6, looks like it from the pics.

What happened to this:

I've been very loosely following this for a long time and I thought the latest was the above shot and it was actually going to be branded by SCION. What's with all the people talking about the subaru version and the toyota version? Won't it just be one car? And how come subaru and toyota are making a car together anyways?

That's a 4 cylinder FB based motor.

The body is not anything to look at, it's just a shell to show off the drivetrain. The body is not to be confused with anything you will see in production.

The red one above is a Toyota concept, not Subaru. (yes, same platform, but not styling)

The newest Toyota concept was just released at the same show as the Subaru glass car. Google for FT-86II.

Symmetrical all wheel drive boxer sports car is a contradiction of terms. Sporty, perhaps, but not sports car.

That is a typo, or poor choice of words, on the plaque.

Subaru and Toyota have both confirmed this as RWD only.

They have not officially mentioned anything about future AWD variants. Personally, based on the engine position, it looks like a completly new AWD system would have to be developed if they wanted AWD later.

I'm disappointed the engine isn't even farther back. Guess that's why I designed my own car. Still interested in possibly checking this out, though.

Ummm, It's a TOYOTA. It's supposed to look like a Toyota. Whether it succeded or not is irrelavent.

Subaru has not released any glimpse or hint of the Subaru version. Expect the overall silloutte to be similier, but ALL the details (and sheet metal) to be Subaru unique.

The clear Subie is definitely a shell, there isn't any real structural stuff, their just showing off the drivetrain. That Toyota however, is just plain gaudy. This comming from a company that used to make Supras and MR2s.

True, Toyota used to make Supras and MR2s.

But some folks (me) thought the last Supra was gaudy and a bit dumpy, and the last MR-S was downright homely. :P

As someone on Nasioc posted, I see more than a bit of Lexus (Toyota) LFA in the FT86 concepts. Funny how a few hundred more horsepower, and $500,000 more in price, can color our vision.

The LFA is sick. I like the toyota concept looks for the most part. There are some ugly attributes to it but for a concept car it looks pretty nice.

I still like the toyota version. Here's a few new rendered pics of it: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2011/03 ... ncept.aspx

If it were a little less bloated and didn't have the LEDs on the front and they made that rear diffuser bit on the bumper not so huge it would look pretty nice. And aftermarket wheels.

Sad thing is, is that I was commenting on the see-through "body" on the Subie version!

The FT86 concept is wayyy better looking than that god awful Lexus.

But they do need to ditch the stupid LEDs and fix the rear end, it's way too busy back there.

Ah! Then your worries are unfounded. There is purposely no flavor to the glass shell.

If you read between the lines of Subaru's press releases and SOA blog's posts on Nasioc, the only reason Subaru displayed anything at all is to reenforce in folks minds that Subaru did the engineering on this car. Otherwise all peeps would talk about is the Toyota FT86 and assume that this was a Toyota only project.

I personally liked the kinda bloated understated look of the MK3 Supra. However, I whole heartedly agree with you on the MR-S, what a wasted opportunity. I have to say though, I appreciate some of the things about the LF-A (like the amazing noise it makes) but I personally find it pretty frickin ugly, especially for a car that costs half a mill. But then again I'm one of those weirdos that really likes the way Subarus look (yeah, even GR Imprezas)!
