2 DOOR LEGACY

Post by legacy92turbo »

since my whole back seat area and trunk is being stripped, i was thinking.... is it possible to weld the back doors shut and bondo over any cracks and sand etc.. to make it look 2 door? i will be removing all power locks and window regulator things, and where the back seat would be, i will be making a custom sub woofer box, ideas or criticism is welcome :D

The only problem will be the doors being too short. It wont look like a coupe. I'd say
photoshop it before you make your final decision. Interesting idea though :D I'd love
to see how this pans out!

I thought about this a few times using 2-door Impreza parts and a reskinned door, but that would be more work than it's worth if it was even possible.

If you're removing the window regulators, might as well replace the glass with acrylic or polycarbonate (the latter is more money, but won't shatter) and weld a bar through the doors across the B and C pillars to stiffen the chassis. Of course, if you use plastic for the windows, since there's no door frame, you'll probably have to secure the edges somehow so that they don't blow out.

I have only seen one car that some one took a 4 door and made it a 2 door by just filling the the door seems. i personally think it looked stupid because the front doors were way too short looking. it was a satarn though, im just glad he screwed up a satarn and not a subie. my opinion don't do it unless u try it on a junk car.

I think it would look dumb, 2 doors need long doors to look good.

2 DOOR LEGACY

Post by Grayguy »

Are the roofs of 2 and 4 door imps the same length? I think the Only way to do it right would be match the proportions of the body:roof:doors of a 2 door imp, move the B pillar back, stretch the doors... I'm sure it's
Possible but unless you can do it yourself just for fun, it'd never be worth it

From my previous musings on building a Nomad/Shooting Brake Legacy, the idea was to use Impreza coupe doors and B-pillars. The hardpoints (at least for the door hinges) are the same, so I was working on the assumption that the inner doors would fit. The outside would have to be reskinned Legacy with an extension in the center from a second Legacy wreck (or formed sheet metal or, possibly the rear doors, but I don't know if there's enough length at the bottom before the wheel cutout or not). Front windows would probably have to be custom since I believe the Impreza has a steeper rake to the windshield and I would guess a lower roofline. Rear quarter windows would also probably have to be custom, but perhaps the Impreza ones wouldn't look stupid. You're talking a lot of structural welding even if it all goes together, so I'd reinforce everything with extra bracing wherever possible to be on the safer side (for the B-pillars, I'd weld a rod up the center channel and I'd also run one or two across the area where the rear doors were to tie the B-pillar to the wheel arch area, perhaps the strut towers).

Actually, on a sedan, I don't think it would look that good either way unless you also combined the glass for where the rear doors used to be and the small quarter window as you'd have two stunted windows on the side. As a side note, it might look cool to just shave all the door handles instead.
