Squeeling/sqeeking sound on pulling away

Post by allan »

My 2.5 Legacy has been occasionally making a sound similar to a sliping belt when pulling away. Had the dealer look at it and they say it might be the flywheel / clutch????. Is this a known problem with these cars? It has 39,000 miles on it and I have owned since 18,000 miles. Noise has been present since I owned it. Only occurs occasionally usually if I take off reasonably fast

have you checked the belts?

I'd start there. They're easy to replace and cheap. If you still have the problem....then start looking at the more difficult and expensive stuff.

When I got my current Legacy it did that, and a little tightening up of the belts was all that was needed.

When you take off fast, you put more stress on the belts, so they're more likely to slip.

If it's not the belts, then it's only one other thing: the water pump
