Mounting 4 Hella's

Post by SWRT »

I know there's a guy on here that took out his grille and mounted 4 Hella's
in it's place. Does anyone know what member that is?

Also, does anyone have any other ideas on mounting 4 of them?

i say make your own i was thinking like a aluminum chair botom and legs then cut each leg the bend leg out hamer down flat then drill a hole and bolt on top of bumper here a pic of what type of chair im talking about http://s1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc4 ... ghtbar.jpg
im just thinking about strengh of it might not be good but u can buy a light bar just like it and bolt on any bumper. and this will probly cost you hardly nothing if not free

I'm thinking the chair may lack strength and the lights would bounce around,
but that titanium one wouldnt ;) That's a good idea.

Crap...I cant see photobucket at work :/

I just remember it's a Legacy sedan (cant remember if it's the SS or not) and
it was black (possibly primer, matte or flat black) and he had 4 Hella's where his
grille would have been.

I was just wondering how he did it. If he had to take off the front bumper and
bumper beam and drill through the bumper beam or what.

I took off the grill, drilled 2 1/2 holes in the beam, welded nuts to them, built a fairly simple bracket out of 3/16th angle iron and flat bar, mounted the lights, and wired them. I will have to look around for more pics, I m ow I took some for someone else, but my old computer crashed and I sold that car, so I might not be able too.

Yeah, I'll have to check that out when I get home today. I was thinking of drilling directly
through the bumper beam and just mounting the lights to that, but I wasnt sure if the hood
would still open and close properly.

I am pretty sure they wouldn't clear the hood, at least not the 6" round ones.

That's the only one I have, but I'll try to talk to my friend who bought the car and have him take some pics of the mount.

We just took the grill out, drilled 2 holes in the bumper beam and welded nuts onto the holes so the light bar was removable and the grill could be re-attached with it off. As you can see its a pretty simple setup but worked great and very solid mount.

Measurements? Thickness of iron used? I'm thinking of making one myself now. :)

I love that idea and I'm going to do that too. It looks like it'd be freakin sturdy too. Do the lights bounce at all?

No they are very stout unless you leave the nuts on the hellas too loose.

Oh and they are at legal height for our state and are road legal to run as long as you only have one pair on with headlights. (and they aren't aimed into on-coming traffic obviously.)

Dang...that's awesome! How can you find if they're the legal height for your state?
I'm not sure how that works with FL.
