I changed my oil pan today, using your advice.

My old pan was cracked around the dipstick seam. due to rust and vibration.

I was able to manage the 4 rear bolts with about one inch clearance
with the jack under the pan.
I used a three eight drive with universal. half inch drive is too bulky.

when I got the pan back on I found the dipstick tube wouldn't go,
so had to take it off again and get the tube in before doing the bolts.
I used a cork gasket and Permatex number two.

not an easy job but better than taking the engine out of the car.
