I managed to get £500 part ex for my MY94 Mondeo Si so only the £3495 balance to find.
The car seems excellent and goes like stink. We did find the tinsy winsiest of oil leaks while the car was up on the ramp. Difficult to describe where, but here goes. With the car up on the ramp I was stood facing the front and the residue was seen on the RH drive shaft gator as it enters the gear box. It seemed to be coming from a little cover plate about 1" diamond shape about 1 foot above the gator.
Oh well, I could look for years to find a car with no oil leaks at all. My Mondeo has been covered in them for the last 3 years with no problems.
I pay the balance and pick it up next Friday! Wahooo!
Glad to hear you got a nice car !! I wish subaru brought those over here. The last turbo sold here before the WRX when it came in 2002 was the Legacy turbo in 1994, so an 8 year stetch of no turbo cars from Subaru I'd do anything to test drive one of those twin turbine models.

1994 Turbo Sedan, Crimson Pearl 5MT, from British Columbia-no rust!
If it's where the axle meets the transmission, it's either that axle seal, or it could possibly be a rear main seal leaking through the bellhousing and blowing that direction (highly unlikely). My bet would be the axle seal, which is not a home-mechanic friendly procedure, and is not cheap at the dealer, I'm afraid...
But for that car, I'd do it 10 times if I had to. That car is too beautiful and too rare to let something minor like that turn me off of it Good find!

Huw,
I am glad to hear that you are loving the new purchase. And aren't oil leak a bizatch? I found a couple on my Legacy turbo shortly after my purchase, but fortunately I can let them run for a bit...enjoy the new ride, and post some pics if you get a chance.

Matt - Cheers for all your help previously. The car is lovely, and what a sound to it!! I have some pictures of the car, but no idea how to post them & I don't have any web space.
Subyluver - It's not from the transmission, but from diectly above, and the residue is on the gator. Didn't look serious to me - hope I'm right!
You can usually get free webspace from your isp, if not angelfire, fotki, and imagestation are some good places to go. When you do get them uploaded, just post the link to it surrounded by IMG tags, like this:

If it is too big an image for some, just let me know and I will change it to a link only.
But she does look good and I just wanted to show her off for a while!
I'll let you know before the admins do, it is frowned on to have a picture in your signature. You can post the links to it or post it in the picture section, but for the sake of the slower bandwidth people the board tries to keep the pictures and avatars from being posted on every post.
Nice looking car though. I wish I could feel what the twin turbo feels like.

Yeah, they'll want you to take the pic out of the sig, this site is on borrowed bandwidth and that saps up too much of it, even though it's linked elsewhere... I'm guessing
Very pretty car though! I love BC-BF Legacies, but I will always have a special place in my heart for BG wagons, they're too beautiful!
And unfortunately, Huw, your use of the term "gator" has completely lost me, does anyone know what he's referring to? Very sorry, I wish I was more attuned to the British tongue But an oil leak is never serious if it's relatively slow. You can always pour more oil in it until you can fix it...

The only gator that rings a bell is the horrable Gain/Gator add software that should be considered a virus, that and the Crocadile hunter related paraphenalia. hehe j/k

Huw, I'm confused how you can be leaking oil near the CV boot, and state it's not coming from your transmission. The only way engine oil can get to that area is to come from the bellhousing from a rear main leak, and that would be underneath it...
"Der Wahnsinn ist nur eine schmale Brücke/die Ufer sind Vernunft und Trieb"
Huw, I apologize, please forgive me, are you saying the leak is coming from the firewall, directly above the transmission? Please don't get frustrated, I just think we have a terminology difference to some respect...
However, I forgot to take into account that your car is RHD, being a British car. And it's a hydraulic clutch, no doubt. So I wonder if you could possibly be leaking clutch hydraulic fluid? I would think that would be the appropriate area if it were to leak. Please don't hold me to that however, as I obviously haven't seen the car...
Other ideas: is one of the turbos in that area? Might wanna take a look at that...
"Der Wahnsinn ist nur eine schmale Brücke/die Ufer sind Vernunft und Trieb"
No worries subylover - I'm happy for the input.
I am getting the car Friday, so I will check out the leak more thoroughly, but I am not going to let it deter me. Especially as the turbos are covered in the 6 month warrante
Cheers
