Help w/ EWG Vacuum lines

Post by Florin1 »

Hello. I installed a vf22 ewg'd w/ a Tial 38mm. Problem is, it doesn't dump excess boost. First pull i hit 22psi before i could back off the throttle. I'm wondering if i didn't hook up something correctly? The car is a 94ss with a stock ej22t 480cc side feeds, and a jdm ecu patch harnessed in.

Vacuum lines installed. Fat hose coming off the top of the ewg goes into the mbc. Mbc goes to the turbo compressor. Skinny vacuum line from the side of the ewg goes to the tapped nipple on the tmic. My stock boost solenoid is capped off. With nothing going to it.

Based on this diagram:

It sounds like you mostly have it plumbed correctly. I would recommend using the same boost reference source at the compressor outlet for the side input on the EWG.

With that being said, your MBC probably needs be adjusted. Adjust it all the way "loose" or as low a boost pressure as you can and see how it works then.

Thanks for the link Josh. I will give it a shot. As for the MBC, It worries me. I think it might be broken. I'll have to swap with the other mbc off the 91 to make sure.

What spring do you have in the EWG? Worst case, for now just leave that top vent open to the atmosphere and you will run the wastegate spring pressure.

Yeah....you could run the wastegate spring pressure and be fine until you can get a new MBC, if it's bad.

Well at least i got this sorted out. Connected the vacuum line to the side port, and it worked like a charm. Solid 8 pounds. So thanks Josh. :-)
