Ok, so just replaced HG on my leggy, and now it alternates between a no spark condition which comes and goes, and running great for a few minutes and then shutting off. I noticed today while sitting in the drivers seat looking at the instrument panel that the temp was steady right in the middle, then when it shut off the temp spiked up to the top. This all happened at the same time, immediately when it started to die, the temp reading spiked. this all happened within about 1/2 second. literally. The no spark condition I think is a grounding issue, because all i have to do to fix it is wiggle the wiring harness a bit and it starts right up. Its still overheating, but i haven't really had a chance to burp it properly due to the don't wanna keep running bullshit. Any ideas? i need the car to go to work on wed, my normal carpool driver is on vacation and my wife needs her car.
Fixed!!
turns out I forgot to tighten up that little ground wire on the main engine harness that goes to the intake manifold. Felt really stupid when I noticed that it was loose. Spent 3 effn days checking every connection but that one. hopefully Others can learn from my FAIL.
Fixed!!! N/A no go. just replaced HGs

Bump, need help, thinking its a grounding issue all around at this point. I the gauge sending unit pegs when connected to my tester wire, so I think something is grounded when it shouldn't be.

Ok now it just cranks and cranks but no start. I tried the unplug maf trick and the unplug cam sensor trick, but still no spark. No spark on any cylinder. Could the distributor have been damaged when I removed it from the manifold? Also my tester lights up on the center terminal on the distributor, and faintly glows on both outer terminals, its this normal? Could a faulty ground cause my symptoms? I know I hooked all the wires back up, and am stumped at this point.
