Are you going to cut/weld/extend the taillights to the new contours?

No, I don't think so. I never really considered that actually. Sooo, maybe!

Thanks a lot! I wasn't sure how to do this but I heard of someone using spay foam to make the shape so I tried it and it worked well. I used a knife to get the hardened foam to the shape I wanted then sanded it smooth. I then added a few layers of fiberglass to make it rigid.

Then I smoothed most of the bump out with body filler.

And now that it's primed I can see all the high spots and low spot much easier.

it's been a fun project. I still have no idea what I am going to do with the rear bumper

If you make brackets to support the bumper, you can use parts of a spare bumper to extend the sides out to meet the fenders. The plastic on the 1st generation cars is polypropylene and I'd bet yours is the same, which is a pretty easy plastic to weld. I don't know what would be easier, though: cutting the center and adding a middle, which would require re-drilling all the mounting holes, or cutting the sides off and extending the bumper there. This is something I wanted to do for a little while with my wagon before I decided not to for the sake of other projects.

Hello everyone. Thanks for the pics and constant encouragement! here are a few I took tonight. The hella sloppy rear "bumper" is simply to fill in the gap until I find a suitable replacement. But I think it's starting to take shape!
