wrx axles

Post by JDMSLIK »

I swapped the sti struts in and I got the camber issue. I'm just about ready to order some JDM front control arms and adjustable rear lateral links. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need longer axles.
Are the wrx axle shafts longer than my stock ones and can I swap the wrx shafts into my current axles?
thx guys

What year WRX?

I'm pretty sure the front track on the 02-07 WRX sedans are wider, however the wagon front track is the same as our cars. So it depends on what you're getting for control arms

These are the ones I understand will work. Fuck I feel like an idiot not knowing.

And these are the rear lateral links I'm looking at

Just looking at the struts I can see the mounting points stick out about a half to a full inch from stock so you figure you'd had to get longer arms to even it out. The car is strictly rallyx, autox and practice sesh's. I live in northern canada in the heart of logging country. Tons of gravel roads with holes. I am worried with the widened stance my axles will pop out of there retainer clips leaving me stranded in big bear country.....I hate bears. They eat people on a regular basis. Just trying to figure out which axles are longer than mine. This makes sense in my head.
And dude thx for the input. I wish I could go to a wrecker and point/measure/buy but we got nothing up here for parts so I gotta order everything.

If you have the wider sedan control arms and struts, then sedan axles should be what you need.

The anti-sway bar might also be wider, so keep an eye on that too.

The rear track is the same, regardless of sedan or wagon. It's only the front that has the wider track. I didn't see any info on those A-arms indicating what they're from. I'd email them and ask if they're from a sedan or wagon....or if they even know...

ya guy doesn't know. There's one guy in town here with a couple wrx sedans and I know he's got a ton of extra parts. I'm tracking him down to see if he's got any axles. I'm taking the risk and ordered the arms and links. I'll post the info and results when I'm done with this.

Probably a good idea to make a list of the measurements when the alignment is done.

I'm thinking

Front width
Rear width
Rough stock axle length front and rear for stock and wrx axles

update

-v8 JDM sti aluminum control arms are the same size as first/second gen legacy control arms

-1998 forester (and up I guess) axles shafts are roughly 1 cm longer than our stock axles, and the splines for the legacy inner cup fit. Think I need a different size boot. The outer cups are identical to ours. Got 2 for $50 off the wreckers.
