92 turbo oil leak

Post by drhoward »

my car has developed a oil leak in the of the engine around the oil pan and filter, there is a fair bit of oil in the area and I'm having a hard time tracking down where exactly its comming from. Are there any common spots up front where these cars leak? I want to try and fix it before it gets worse

any advice would be appreciated

thanks

You probably have a leak from the front crank seal. I'd suggest taking your car to the local car wash place with a bottle of degreaser. Spray the engine down real good with degreaser and then use the pressure washer to clean the oil off. Once you've done that, drive it back home and look to see if you can tell where the oil leak is coming from.

They're not super difficult if you have some mechanicing experience. The toughest part is just getting the old seals out. They can be kind of tricky. A seal puller tool will help with removal, and a large socket will help with installation of the new seal.

I have done them on other cars before, they always seem to be a pain in the ass to remove

Here's some pics from a timing belt job which may help give you an idea of what's involved.
