Putting a '98 Forester 5-speed in my '90 Legacy - Trans, axles, and tranny mount went it fine.
Also installed an '00 Impreza RS 4.11 LSD rear diff. - installed w/rear axles from the Impreza went in OK.
I bought a '95 Legacy 5-speed driveshaft (complete) and it won't fit. The middle carrier bearing mount is about 2" too far back and overall it's too long.
The '90's AT driveshaft is one unit - doesn't have the 4-bolt connectors in the middle like the newer models, so I can't use any part of it.
And suggestions on what WILL fit?
Thanks,
Td

Re: Driveshaft compatibility - AT>>5-speed swap on '90 Legac
I'll give a partial answer to my own post.
I pulled a complete driveshaft from a '93 Legacy, and it will fit....except the rear 4-bolt flange is different than the newer '00 Rear Diff's I installed. So I can either swap the flange from the rear diff (any '90-94 should work??) or just use the rear half of the '95 driveshaft since its flange will work.
Since I can return the '95 I may just buy a socket to fit the rear diff's flange bolt and swap it w/one of my extra diffs.
On a 'sort-of-related-note' THIS SITE sells a flange for the WRX R160 which is different than the STi R180, and I've read that the WRX AT driveshaft works w/the STi R180.
