Whiteline steering rack bushing will NOT fit

Post by Bdub »

I am not quite sure why, but I cannot get the driver's side Whiteline KSR202 poly bushing to fit into the mount. The passenger mount fits just fine, but there is just no possible way I will be able to mount the bushing like how it is pictured. Thankfully (I guess) I have the rack out of the car, and I managed to get a couple pictures to show you what I mean. Perhaps I am doing something wrong here.

Don't really see what the problem is. Looks fine to me, maybe you need to clean your rack though.

The grunge in and around the bushing is just the grease from trying to slip into the mount. I cleaned the area up, scraped all the old shit out, and how it sits right now is as far as it will go. The large gap is the best it will fit on. The mount on the crossmember won't fit between the bushing, it feels/looks as if it is too wide.

Just put it on anyways. It should smash into place. Mine was like that too. I just did this job last week. It's made for that rack so if there's no crap in there it has to fit.

I installed these bushings last year and had fitment issues, I think it was just like in your photos. I think what was happening with mine was that the bushing was a tight fit and when put on the rack and then pushed into the bracket on the crossmember, it would deform and bind up, and not adjust to the shape of the bracket, definitely seemed like the groove on the bushing was too narrow.

I just got it close and tightened it up, seemed to make a tight fit. Haven't had any issues at all.

There are two different width bushings for that side. I'm not certain on application or part #, but I know for a fact that they are different widths.

Those are the right bushings.

The KSR200 bushings are smaller on the passenger side, not drivers. Mine seemed to fit alright, albeit a pain to install on the driver's side with the rack in the car.

Alright, thanks. I was just making sure I wasn't doing something wrong. There really isn't a wrong way to put the damn thing on, you'd think.

I'll just muscle the bastard into place.

There you go. As long as it's all cleaned out and you put enough grease on it you shouldn't have a problem.
