91' SS hydraulic clutch line compatibility

Let me just start off by saying i posted this in the parts shed in hopes i would find an oem line, but i really cant afford to wait. My car is up on jack stands and i need to start packing so i can move back to oregon.

This part seems more difficult to come by then i expected. Especially down here. But now i have my 5 speed swapped in and my car is still on jack stands... so i need to get my hands one. Shopping around online has only showed results for 92-94. I assumed it wouldnt matter since they are all pretty much the same setup, but apperantly the 91' SS was different from anything else in fact that it uses two different lines. While the 92-94 SS uses a single soft line the whole way. Could i use one of these? My friend gave me some lines from a STI since they are 2 piece also, but it is not sealing at the master. I read somewhere on here that they are different diameters? So i would like to to get a oem replacement from another year or advice for the correct stainless steel equivalent. I have been on hold with the dealership down here for the last hour trying to get one, but they are on nation wide back order. I will continue my search. Im a firm believer in the search button around here as it answers damn near everything, but i am having problems with this one. Please help me get my tires back on the ground. I cant wait to start shifting, but it seems i will have to after all.

I went to https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/partscat.html, put in a a '91 and '93 Legacy from the drop downs, chose Clutch>>Hydraulic System>>hydraulic system and it came back with the below results. Based on price, since it doesn't give part numbers, the 1st two are different as their price differs....did you call the local subie shop?

I did eventually find that, but when it came down to calling them to confirm if they had it stock or not. It just said the number was no longer available. IDK if maybe they have the wrong on thier website or what.

But someone who recently just built a drift car had the bright idea of having a shop that makes brake lines just make a custom one since they are the same design and the same fluid and pressure inside. A thought that never even crossed my mind. Luckily for me there is a place a few miles from me called, of all things... Hose and Fittings Inc. 1 916 372 3888. Super friendly, fast and flexible. I decided to upgrade to stainless steel braided and got it 12'' long with banjo bolts on both ends. Only cost $31 bucks for the whole line. Which is less then the rubber one would have been with shipping. $40 bucks with the 2 banjo bolts and 4 copper washers. Not that bad i think.

I had thought the 91 clutch MC used a flare type fitting like the brake MC did, while the 92-94 clutch MC used a banjo style fitting.

When I did my AWD & 5spd conversion I pieced together a SS braided line with banjo fittings from Earls. It has worked great.

check out russell performance you could make your own. my dyi kinda guy, i think you might need specific tool to crimp the fitting to the line. not sure. some of those lines russell has are sexy.

I didnt get a chance to take pictures of the line before i installed it. I was really just focused on getting that line on and getting my car back on the ground. Sorry.

As for the issue of flared fittings versus banjo bolts, you are correct josh. On the 91 they use a flare fitting, which they switched to the banjo bolts for the 92-94 apperently. Whish is a way easier way of doing it and removes a lot of un needed line that can make for a pita when it comes to bleeding. I had not seen a 91 ss 5 speed in the car before, so i didnt know how it was supposed to go. When i ordered replacement parts and they arrived, i realized that they had spaces for the banjo bolts and not like the hydraulic line i had. So either they sent me the wrong master, or they didnt know there was a difference between the model years.

Iv put about 800 miles on it moving back to oregon. And everything is working great. I had never driven it with a soft line, so i cant compare the difference, but the stainless steel one is working great.
