Does '05 sti struts/springs fit my 92ss?

Post by Liquidfreak117 »

I have recently found some '05sti struts and springs for sale. The cost is very reasonable and I am in desperate need of a upgrade.
I have read through many posts and I have discovered that '05 sti struts and springs will fit my 92ss. But how much modification is needed to make these work? That is what i cannot clearly find. I am always working out of town and it is hard to make modifications to my car from a hotel parking lot. Fortunately, I have access to a lift and garage. But i dont want to tie up my buddy's lift any longer than I need to. So I am trying to get a read on what I am looking at.
I am also open to any sugestions of a better set up.I know going stock is the easiest way to go. But, I love driving this car. And I drive alot in the mountains and want to take full advantage what it can offer. So I am hoping that even a used pair of sti struts will help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they'll fit, the front will bolt on, but I'm not sure to do the rear as it applies to the 92, since I have a 91, I had to reuse my rear tophats on mine. Check the suspension sticky for details

It's a great setup, I ran it for about a year and a half, only reason I ditched it is because I got a deal on coilovers I couldn't say no to. It keeps the ride height about the same so if you're in the mountains a lot it should be perfect. Better setup would really be subjective, sounds like it'd be perfect for you though, pretty much anything aftermarket will be stiffer and lower. You might also look into sway bars, it can be done fairly cheap and makes a big difference, again check the suspension thread for what fits.

05 sti has lug pattern difference, and there's some modification to the strut you have to do. the opening where the strut mounts to the hub is a little wider, and the spacing on the bolt holes is different.

04 is bolt on

Ah, you're right, I was thinking the 05 was still the same but I was mistaken.

Well the rears will still work anyway, mine were off an 06 in the rear. Again, not sure what you need to do with the tophats though.
