Uh, Brian, I intentionally did not use the IMG tag. In my opinion, it wasn't appropriate. The image is fairly large. On some computers, that can screw up the rendering of the page. On others, it can slow it down greatly. It also forces anyone reading the thread to download the image, even if they didn't want to spare the bandwidth. That increases load on my server, too.

But if they don't feel like seeing it, they don't have to.

Anyway... does anyone know where this picture comes from? I don't remember where I got it. I just found it while looking through a very old hard drive. It doesn't look to be a Photoshop job.

Now that's a car that looks good as a convertable, some can't pull it off (legacy) but the xt can :D

vrg3: I was just f'cking with ya. That's why I used the  and the  No offense intended.

I'm not sure where the hell that image came from. It's certainly much better looking than that Legacy thing with the vinyl/convertible top.

Brian - No offense taken; I was just explaining my reasons. :)

Yeah, I definitely agree the XT pulls the soft-top look off better than any other Subaru I can think of.

legacy92ej22t : I think you want a convertable XT6. I wouldnt want a 1.8 turbo engine if the 6 cylinder was a choice, less power and less reliable.

The XT6 had a bunch of cool stuff... Like, it uses the same hub design as the Legacy so you can use the same wheels (hehe, I'm just picturing WRX rims on an XT6) and I think the same struts. And (provided the Cybrid system is working) you can get full steering assist even if the engine's stalled!

Ya, you're right, the XT6 would be better. Hell though, I'll take both and another with an EJ22T transplant just for kicks

At the East Coast Shootout this last Sept. a guy from SOA had a XT-T with a VF11, Thunderbird TMIC, custom piping and was running something like 13-14 psi. He was smoking. It was great. :D He's over at the USMB. IIRC his name is DennisEX24 or something like that.

Interesting.... I'd take a turbo 4 over a 6 cylinder all day. Less weight, more potential.

I know I may piss some people off but the 1.8 turbo is not a very good engine. Too many weakness. Id take the reliability of the 6 cylinder any day. I see that the 6 cyl puts out 145hp @ 5200rpm and 156lbs or Torque @4000 rpm

The 1.8 turbo has 115hp@5200 134tq@2800, you would have to increase this quite a bit to match. With lubrication problems, leaks and continiously failing lash adjusters Id stear clear.

Wow! Look what happened while I was away for 5 hours! I think Ginger will become a similar project as Patti: more of a restoration. Fear not, though, speed freaks. I am devising an evil little plan in my head having to do with another BC Legacy that should put me in STi territory

I'm not sure exactly where the picture originated from, but I have drooled over it on the XT6.net website plenty of times already :D. Here are some other pics, I personally like the XT6 convert :)

Matt, Dennis does have an XT Turbo that is whoopin some ass right now! Keep in mind though, that engine is built up real good, bored .050 over to fancy internals...

ciper, I might be tooling around with an EA82T sometime in the near future, from what I've heard, their one weakness is the same as the 96 Outbacks: head gaskets. Here is a fine example!

I wonder why they never made that...seems a natural for convertible. I think it looks much better than the Triumph and TVR wedges. It would be great to weld the doors shut, too and have no top - less weight and little sacrifice in rigidity. Plus it would be cool to have to jump over the doors to get in (women wouldn't like it though...hm, maybe take out the passenger seat then, what the hell?). Of course it would be a little less than practical up here in New England.

I agree with Ciper on the 3-bearing EA82 - I prefer the EA81 for cheapness, longevity, and blind-man maintainability and the EJ for power, but that's me.

subyluvr2212: I had one with a leaking head gasket too. Valve lash adjusters that fail often suck, and having to take half the damn engine apart to get at them REALLY sucks (maybe not half but alot more work than a legacy). The failing gaskets that cause bad lubrication is also a common problem. I think followers of that generation call it the mickey mouse gasket or something.

Think of it this way, the XT6 engine (and other items) is what the Legacy and all of its relatives derive from. When you start looking at how the ER27 is bult its more like an EJ series engine than a previous generation car.

Actually, ciper, what I've read about Subaru 6-cyl's is this:

The ER27 is basically an EA82 with two extra cylinders, it shares nothing with EJ-series engines. You can -- and people have -- put EA82 pistons and rods right into a ER27, it will decrease your CR a bit, some people with aspirations of a turbo ER27 are taking this route.

The EG33 (SVX engine) is basically a EJ22 with 2 extra cylinders. Nothing to do with EA-series engines. Again, you can put EJ22 pistons in an EG33, not sure what it does to CR though...

Then the new EZ30 six is something completely different in a class by itself

subyluvr2212: Your going to hope you never said "shares nothing with EJ-series engines"

At the moment I wont be able to track down the pages showing information against this. You'll see though. The items I was mostly referring too are mostly external to the engine. One of the XT6 fan pages put it best, listing all the new items that are now common on Subarus.

You are right that it is an EA82 and a half, this is even evidence by the retarded two pistons for one exhaust pipe and one piston for the other exhaust pipe

Some images I found (the black car is photoshop while the white is real)

Okay, I've been wrong before. I do know that XT6's share as much with Legacies as they do with XT 4-cyl's... Do you remember what the ER27 shares with EJ engines? I'll take your word for it...

I dont remember exactly. I think it was the idle control, fueling setup, intake components and the ECU is supposed to be more like an EJ series than the early generation.
