Might be easier if I understood better what you are trying to use?
Going with WRX springs 02-04 and asking what struts?

??????????

No you can't have one

no, i am going to purchase some springs to give it a little drop but want to upgrade my struts, and
from what I have learned I might have to use my stock tophats and spring perch.
So I need to see if wrx struts will work or do I need wrx wagon struts.
Pretty sure I can use anything from 02-04 just want some more experience input by hopefully someone that has done it.

The main difference is going to be the springs rates will be slightly different between the wagon & sedan. I wouldn't sweat it too much. If you're concerned, get the wagon springs.

I know others have used sedan springs on wagons, but I don't know the specifics of how the car sat afterwards or whether there were any other issues.

I too would recommend the wagon springs for your Legacy wagon, but if you're desparate, sedan springs should physically fit.

using something wagon specific would be best. the stock rear springs are stiffer than the fronts. all the other subarus have softer rear springs, so you'll end up with a lower rear end and more understeer. There are some places that make spacers that go in between the strut tops and tower which will help the ride height at least.

As far as fitment, 04-07 impreza springs won't fit with your stock tops, and 04-07 tops won't fit in the car. But, if you tracked down some 90-91 rear mounts they should work. Plus, those RCE springs are designed for STi struts or better, so putting them on some used wrx struts is a bad idea.

02-03 springs rear will fit with your stock top mounts

using WRX (sedan) struts means a loss of about a degree of negative camber, which means about the best you can get is 0.

Your best bet would be 02-03 wagon specific struts and springs.

Per the GD/GG Impreza (WRX/STi) springs on BC/BF/BJ cars thread in Suspension Sticky Compilation Thread
If you have a 92-94 Legacy, you can use 02-03 Impreza springs as direct replacements. The 92-94 Legacies do not have tapered rear springs, and neither do the 02-03 Imprezas.
I read that as, as long as the springs are meant for an 02-03 Impreza, they should work.

yes I bought used 4 strut assemblies (strut+spring+hats the whole thing in one block I mean :) from 06 wrx wagon, no problem with swapping with the front, just regular swap, bolts right in !

Rear slightly different, the top hats (hope its right terminology again I 'm new here too:) are half cericle shaped on wrx and triangular shaped on 92, but it didnt seem to be a problem.

The inner rubber circle/tit on the 06 is smaller than on the 92, not sure if it is a biggy, I doubt it.

The bolt pattern on the 06 wider than the 92, I drilled an extra hole on the car's body where it bolts in on the top...COULD be a biggy! it's really not precise. Hopefully an alignment will straighten things up.

It drove fine so far, but I still have doubts how it will work at higher speed.

Finally there's no drop in height with wrx wagon strut assemblies (barely - 1 inch maybe in rear, need to double check, looks pretty even to me so far)

Good luck

couldnt agree more, but I had to do it right away! 240k on stock struts they were totally shot!

I will swap with the right hats or make myself a custom metal plate that will fit the 06 hat in the future and will give me a 1 inch lift to make up for the height loss on the rear...

Anyway have fun with your ride!
