Wow. Exciting!

Weird, though... a performance Subaru without AWD or a turbo. I guess that's because it's part Toyota. That engine layout looks perfect for a supercharger though.

And the gauge cluster is beautiful. Tach front and center.

This is pretty much what I wanted Mazda to do with the Miata for me to buy one. If I didn't need more room in the car, I'd probably end up with one of these. Maybe I'll pick up a used one in a few years if the drifters don't destroy them all. Though, I suppose I could make good use of just the drivetrain.

Oof, I didn't think of that. If Top Gear likes it, especially Clarkson (though I'm sure he'll at least bitch that it needs more power even if it's a great drive), I'm not sure I'll want it. Might be worth getting one and garaging it as I have a feeling nice original examples will be very rare in 12 years.

Top Gear is everything I hate about the majority of car people: stunted juvenile mentality and closed and single mindedness desperately afraid of change or anything different. I thought I had seen the worst of it from the transportation department in design school, but I think people like Clarkson excede them in obnoxiousness, if not matching their black hole of negativity (you think I'm bad, but I'm like Richard Simmons-happy compared to those trans students). There's a reason I have no friends into cars and I still come here instead of any place else even though my wagon hasn't run in 6 years because, for the most part, the people here are car guy anomalies and are pretty cool. Ecomodder isn't bad either, but it lacks the more friendly atmosphere of here. Not that it's unfriendly, just less personal.

It's not that I'll hate the car if TG likes it, but it's like when you hear an idiot voice the same opinion as you and it makes you question your own conclusion. Really, the only way I could imagine this car sucking is by unfortunate association with tools that I would not want to be stereotyped with, rather than any fault of the car itself.

I see what you mean Steve. I guess I never thought of it like that. I watch it because I love cars and there's cars on the show and I think those guys are pretty funny and it's just a lot different than the shows they have here. My other favorite show is Misfits which is over in the UK as well, oddly enough.

I have friends who are into cars but most of them aren't into imports. I'm one of the few. I'm a fan of
TG myself but I don't always agree with their opinions. Does give a different view of the cars at least

I have basically no friends that are into cars. There's a couple that like cars but aren't willing to work on them or mod them in any way or are too busy being married and living the boring life.

Mine are too lazy. Most see cars as appliances and nothing more. The ones who do work on cars and like them have been interested in them before emissions even existed. I personally am a diesel nut but also like Japanese cars and American ones.

Other peoples' opinion or interest in a thing doesn't change the inherent qualities of the thing itself. Its like the Miata conundrum. Dynamically, its a great car, but would you care to be seen in one? I would.

If I owned a miata I'm sure I wouldn't mind being seen driving it because I would make it look good. A stock one, not so much but then again I could care less what other people think. I'd like to drive one though. I drove some MX5 turbos when I worked at the lincoln mercury mazda dealer and they're quite fun.

The Miata doesn't bother me. There's not really much baggage with it, though. People see it as kind of effeminate, but I could care less. I just don't want the BRZ to become something like an IROC or 70's Corvette mullet cars and their strong association with certain jackasses. At least those cars kind of suck anyway.

I might be getting a Miata. Time and money makes building a car from scratch a great risk, but a Miata would make a decent platform for an extensive aero rebody and chassis strengthening (getting rid of &^% doors).

If anything I think you would compare the BRZ to the S2000......except with far better handling, way more torque, and not sucky.

Yeah, Josh, I guess the S2000 is a better comparison, and those cars seemed to have attracted a certain unfortunate following, as well. The good thing is that the S2000 isn't exclusively douchebag and there are enough humans that own them that I don't really think of them being tainted so much.

One thing about the BRZ that hasn't been mentioned is the exhaust note. I would bet it has an equal length header on it so no rumble. Every one will say it sounds like a Honda.
