how to install new deck and/or speakers?

Post by subaru1992 »

hi i just purchased a 1992 Subaru Legacy LS Wagon 4D from a friend and was wondering how to do this step by step:
1. remove the old deck and install a new one
2. remove the old speakers and install new ones

and would this fit?

Yea, that will fit, any deck should fit these cars, they're 2.5din so any single or double din will fit, and 6.5" speakers as well.

For the deck there will be a diagram that comes with the deck(or you can find them on the companies website if you buy a used one) so just match up the wires with this and you should be good to go

As far as speakers it's pretty straightforward, unscrew the old ones, and put in the new ones, the wiring should only fit one way on them.

the deck is easy to remove, if you have Airbags you will need a #2 stubby phillips screwdriver if you don't have airbags then you wont. you will have to remove the ashtray and the above the ashtray you will have to feel for the 2 phillips screws, then remove the cup holder and you will see 2 more phillips screws, remove them. then the trim piece comes off then you will see 4 more screws that hold the stereo brackets in, remove them. then as you look at those 4 screw holes you will see a gap between them from top to bottom, in those gaps on each side of the radio, there will be 2 more screws (one on each side of stereo) remove them and you should be able to pull your stereo out.

All for a total of 10 screws

Use a magnetic screwdriver when you do it, I drop the screws almost every time!

Any speakers won't fit in the door without using some sort of spacer -- the magnet sticks too far into the door and touches the window.

I hacked off the OEM speaker mounts and screwed them into the new speakers.
