No Charge + constant Battery + Brake light

Hey guys,

I recently participated in a puzzle Rally (lots of classic cars)
We had to qive up half way because of the battery light and brake light being lit.
I measured the voltages and the alternator wasn't charging the battery.

This evening I replaced the alternator for a second hand from the dutch subaru forum.

Same problem.

Lights constant on the dash, Battery and Brake warning (not parking brake)

Battery voltage is 11.9 (I dind't charge it after the day we drove 2 ours with lights on)
Battery volltage on idle is 11.5 , at 3000 rpm it is 11.5

Fuses Harness? anyone?

Are you sure the alternator on the second Subaru was good? Can you take the alternator to a parts store and have them test it?

The other possibility is the diode in the alternator wiring may be bad. Have you done any testing/troubleshooting with a multi meter?

Did you check the black wire fuse in the engine bay fuse box?

He guys,

Black wire seems fine, I pull it out when the car sits still for a month or so.
(Cars and motorbikes have been stolen out of our appartement garage in the basement)

I replaced the alternator again for another one (Fuji Heavy Industries Hitachi) insted of Mitsubishi.
Idle is now 13.3 volts and with revs 14.4 , lights go out when the car is idleing.

I'm having fuelcuts now, so I don't know if I got the right alternator.

Whent for a 10 min drive and turned around right after I noticed it and taped it.

I didn't see what I would call a fuel cut event in the video. Are you still having issues?

Bit late but, I parked the car for 2 weeks, then drove it and all problems were solved in 2012.
No fuel cuts or hickups and no more voltage regulator/alternator problems with the Hitachi Fuji Heavy dynamo.


Now i finished my Turbo build:
Today i'm having the same sort of issue again.
The battery and brake light are flashing together but they softly lit up at low RPM.
I have the same (expensive) maintenance free battery that still works great after 6 years.

What can cause a voltage regulator to die ?

On the alternator the charge cable is protected with a rubber sleeve. I pulled it up and the connection was white/corroded. I cleaned everything and it makes a proper connection now. Haven't seen the lights on the dashboard since!!!
