ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability
Long story short, my 22t is back home and there is a NA 22 sitting in a junk yard here. I need to modify the oil pan to make it shorter but also need to add capacity similar to what cosworth does on their oil pans, so I'm going to chop and weld it.
Will a oil sump from an ej22 work on an ej22t?

that is a noob question why no body is answering it. yes it will work. all ej series engines are practically the same. post pics of what your trying to do sound like somethind id want to do since i keep denting my oil pan off road.
Re: ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability

Alright, guys, this is ridiculous. Be grownups.

Re: ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability
Let me explain myself. Im a car guy, but they happen to be old school VWs.
My reason for asking is that their is usually some sort of turbo drain that goes back to the oil sump but Im assuming the ej22t's do this through the block and not the oil pan.
I want to accomplish something similar to this
or most likely something like this
I will also be looking at strengthening the oil pickup tube, any ideas on that?
oh and any ideas about baffling would be awesome too.

The EJ22T oil drain actually goes back into the cylinder head.
Why do you want to strengthen the oil pickup tube?

Re: ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability
Ive heard and read that they seem to have a problem with fracturing leading to loss in oil pressure resulting in spun bearings, these may be more common on ej20s though if I am mistaken.
vrg3, Ive also been looking over your threads extensively, seems I found this site like 6 years late sadly due to someone ripping you off, which saddens me because you took the initiative to do something awesome and someone ruined a great thing because they were greedy for everyone .
Im a vw guy, there is going to be a growing albeit slow abandonment from the old air-cooled engines to ej22s. ej22s are plentiful, powerful, and parts are much easier to come buy. (a 150hp vw engine will set you back around 5 grand and its harder to find a builder you can trust, good parts drying up and being replaced with Chinese knock offs , no Im not kidding you read that right)

awesome man. you on the samba or shop talk forums? They have some great information on there as to swaps, but this is where I come to read specifics to the engine.

Yeah, it kind of sucked, and soured me on forums for a while. I'll have to find my notes and post them up so other people can build off of them though.

Re: ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability
well I certainly understand and I hope to read that information one day.
Re: ej22t and ej22 oil pan compatability
I'm assuming you're planning to modify the oil pick up tube height as well, correct? How much shorter in height do you plan to make it and how much additional capacity do you want to add?
My recommendation would be to find the normal oil level in the pan and try to ensure that you add enough additional capacity when you shorten the pan height so that you don't lose any total oil capacity. I would think oil foaming or air bubbles would be more a problem on a shorter depth wider pan vs. a deeper narrower pan.
This may be all information you already know....
