Ej20g engine, with ej22t wiring harness, and ej20g ECU??

Post by mexie-subie »

So i have been looking around and i have access to an ej20g ecu for cheap and i want to put it into my car to make my ej20g engine run a little better. i am just wondering what all do i need? i personally dont know much about wiring and everything, i do have basic electrical knowledge but nothing beyond that. have been reading and reading and i am wondering if i have all that i need:

Ej20g ECU 4 plug or 3 plug? i don't know.
Conversion harness (4-2)

i don't know much beyond that and i am not sure where to get the conversion harness.

if somebody could please help me out with this that would be greatly appreciated.

i don't think i will need a tune because it is just a basically stock ej20g from a 94 wrx:
closed deck engine
intake
tmic
td04
TBE
pneumatic FCD (pushing 14 lbs)

You have a North American Legacy turbo with an EJ20G engine swapped into it? This should be easy. I'm pretty sure all EJ20G ECUs were 4-plug. You'll just have to do some wiring for the ignition, because the EJ22T ECU has 2 ignition channels but the EJ20G has 4. Other board members have written about the process of adding the wires to the harness and adding the ignition components needed.

Only the v1, v2 Wrx and early legacy rs ecu's are four plug. Everything that point generally is the 3 plug. There's a couple little wiring differences with an ej22t harness, but those things have been covered.

ok, so i came across a ej20t 4 plug ECU, now my questions is, before i spend money on it, if i know it was from an ej20t engine, and it is 4 plug, am i guaranteed that it will work? (of course if it isn't broken itself) and also would there need to have any MAF changes? i was reading on kimo's thread that he had problems with the MAF system. thanks guys for all your help! i will be purchasing this ecu and swapping it in w/out any robtune, and i just want everything to go smoothly ya know? thanks!

You'll want the JECS maf if you're running rob's tune. If not, I'm not sure.

It needs to be an EJ20G ECU from one of the WRX variants (not a liberty/legacy or later Forester). If you can get the 2 digit ECU code I can confirm.
