Just replaced door lock on driver side door after 2 years of getting in through the other side, and now today out of nowhere I can't lock the trunk anymore!
I can open it but the key wont spin back the other way to lock it. The cylinder doesn't want turn the other way feels like there's rubber stuck there almost...
Any body ever had that happen?
Looks like I'll have to order a trunk lock cylinder I'm assuming
I'm going to assume it's a sedan since you called it a trunk vs. hatch. Again, assuming it's a sedan you should be able to look at the back of the lock cylinder when the trunk lid is open. Is the rod jammed or anything like that?
Again if it's a sedan there is no "locking" the trunk....it's always locked, there's no handle, just the key lock.
If it's a wagon, you'll need to pull the plastic cover off to see inside the hatch and look at the lock cylinder/mechanism.
My guess is that it would take some kind of crocked crook to try to get in the an old car through the "hatcth" , so hopefully I can live with it for a couple days
Yes that would be a good guess! Definitely different feel than my driver door lock when it broke (great writing on how to change the cylinder btw! I believe each member of this forum should give you 10% of the total savings they make by using the repair guides up here )
Anyway I believe you're a telepathic JOsh , doing diagnostics on-line haha!
even if you are not a telepath you should at least take the 10%
Took another look and saw that one side of the handle is broken, if I play with the "hatch" handle and let it pop the problem goes away, so yes it is not a cilinder problem but more something that is getting stuck inside (telepathy...)
So no biggy.
Now the dumbass valet who drove my car the other day f... up my repair on my driver side door lock so I have to takae it all apart again (god damn it !)
