08 Outback 5mt in 93ss
So, i bought a 93ss shell for super cheap. It was fully stripped of all drivetrain, suspension, brakes, etc..I am going to start putting it all together this week. I basically have to build it from the ground up including all wiring, brake lines, small stuff. I already have a lot of the parts from hoarding over the last year. I need a tranny though and have been shopping around for a 4.11 or 4.44 fd tranny that could hold up to 250-300whp. I have a a budget of around 2k to get this thing together and smashing around soon. The tranny will be the most expensive thing i need to buy. I can get a 08 Outback tranny from work with super low mileage for $500. I just wondered how long it will hold up to the power. We had a 05 Outback XT tranny awhile back that i wanted so bad but didn't have money at the time and it sold pretty quick. I also thought about swapping it(Outback 5mt) to pull style hydraulic instead of push using a wrx slave, clutch fork, flywheel and clutch basically due to the abundantcy of aftermarket clutchs and lw flywheels. Is it worth switching. I've wondered if the pull style has any advantages over push. I looked at a wrx slave and the spacing between the mounting eyes doesn't match up to the Outback tranny, so is there a bracket that holds the slave to the tranny or is it a direct bolt on?

All the 5mt's are mostly the same....so if it has the FD you want....it's probably worth getting.
Regarding swapping between pull & push style clutch setups, I don't think that's going to be an easy thing to do. You would likely have to machine the trans case housing to accept the pull style's clutch fork & pivet pin.
If you're on a budget, stick with the push setup and get a slightly beefy clutch setup.
With the push setup, here's a picture of how it's setup on my 06 Legacy. Not sure if that's similar to the WRX or outback setup.

Yeah, thats exactly how the Outbacks are. Even the 05 Outback XT uses the push. I thought all turbo usdm subaru manuals used pull but not true, they must of changed that in 04 or 05. Are the newer STIs still pull? Also, i thought the tranny cases had both holes already for either pivot pins. Its not a big deal, i'm just gonna stick with the push on the Outback tranny and get a better flywheel and clutch setup for it. I'll also need to figure out what driveline and axles will work with the ss hubs and 01 RS rear diff I have. I'll figure that out when i get to that point. I have to get shift linkage still too and planned on using something newer to get a short shifter for it.

I think in 06 or 07 the WRX went to the push style. I believe the STi still uses the pull style.

Yeah, i've been looking around and basically all the ej255s from 05 on used push in the WRX, Legacy GT, Outback XT, Forester XT. So, now i just need to find a lightweight flywheel and decent clutch that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
