Revscan issues!!

Post by martimus919 »

I just got the Rescan software again thanks to member wtdash. But when I hook up the cable and try to connect to the computer I keep getting a message, "Invalid selection" message in the setup options, and the only one that even shows any car options is "SSM OBD1" and I don't have any options for ports.

Is this a software issue? I never had this problem before. I'd appreciate any help I can get, I really want to find out what's going wrong with my ride.

1) Does the revscan cable show up in Device Manager?
2) Do you have the ignition in the ON position?
3) what version of revscan are you using? The latest version is 1.10. I've got a copy found here http://bsod2600.home.comcast.net/~bsod2 ... EVScan.zip

1) As soon as I plug in the cable the computer recognizes it... But that's also with it not even plugged into the car.
2) I had the car running when I was trying to connect
3) I'm not sure the versoion I was using I will have to check when I get home, but I will also try your version as well.

So I tried your program today (finally) and pretty much the same thing. But now it's telling me to, "Select a Vehicle". I definitely have selected a vehicle.

In device manger, are there any unknown devices? If so, sounds like you haven't installed the driver yet.

Once you select a vehicle, then what happens?

I finally got a computer to work! I can get into the program but cannot connect to the car. I tried installing a driver by selecting the automatic option and nothing was found. What would I select if I were to do a manual selection option?

You didn't answer the previous question which will also affect if revscan can connect to the car.

is the ignition turn to the second position when you try to connect?

So I've put this issue aside until I had a comp just for cars. So I now have a Dell mini 10 I picked up for work at Toyota and for the Subarus at home nothing else.

So I have the comp, I have the software, I have the driver, I am connected... But no values are being displayed, I just get zeros. Car is running when I am doing all of this by the way.

Hi,
Connected to the Rev cable in windows or the software shows connected? I've not used this in months, so not fresh in my mind how to connect, but the latest version was easier to connect, IIRC.

Go to this SITE and download their software- VWRX.com - Volkswagen Vanagons with Subaru WRX Turbo engines. It worked on my car w/the rev cable.

It will help diagnose whether it's the software, the cable or your car's connection....speaking of which, I'd check your cable and ensure it's all good. You could have 2 of the 3 wires working and not be able to read/see data, but show 'connected'.

Also, if you have wireless near where you can access your car, let me know...I can remote in and check it.

Me again....found a pic of when I was using Revscan:
Image

Don't take this personally, but did you check the boxes in front of each parameter? They need to be checked to show a value.

Due to the slow processor in the ECU and Select Monitor speed, you normally only log a couple parameters @ a time - There's too much going on for the Select Monitor to log when @ WOT. But @ idle or cruise you could turn 'em all on to see what your values are.

I was messing around with the cable and comp today and got a coolant temp reading... -50 deg Celsius. Could it be the driver maybe I download the wrong one?

Figured out why I couldn't connect!

Now here's what my setting are at.

Image

Here's a code I got while in bumper to bumper traffic this morning.

Image

Now here's where I'm at with the Revscan software. Some of the values obviously are not a value and just... something. So I want to know what to do about those and how I am able to play with the fuel trim, help?

My "legacy of revtronix" thread should cover most of it, in addition to the "ecu learning issues" thread...

I forgot about the Legacy of Revtronix thread, thanks for reminding me, very useful! But I still don't know why I'm not getting readings but instead random symbols. Maybe it said it in one of those thread but I'm very tired and probably missed that part while reading. But for example I used to get a throttle position % reading but now randomness.

I'm also assuming that I just punch in the settings I want changed into the columns of the highlighted areas such as fuel trim?

Thanks for the help! I hope I'm making sense, very tired, working on cars all day to come home and work on more is no fun but it pays the bills.

Try disabling the wideband support. Last I recall it wasn't finalized and may be causing the data acquisition problems. After restarting RevScan, if you only enable one or two of those problem parameters, it still have problems displaying? Are you using a USB to COM converter per chance? It could also be a source of the data errors. I used one from KeySpan (before purchased by Tripplite) with no problems.

Fuel Trim Full Throttle - Since you're getting invalid data for this one, I'd assume your Revtronix chip was produced before sept 2009. I know this worked with mine and it was flashed after sept 2009. There is no way to tell what revision you have either -- up to the seller to keep the documentation sent from Revtronix/Mike.

Octane Factor - did you just reset the ECU? a value of -1 doesn't look good, as a fully learned ECU should be at 100%. Odd though, because an ECU reset typically would put this value at 25% IIRC. Can you force it to 50%? click in that field and type a number.

I'm using the cable that Revtronix sold me, and I threw away my receipts and papers from Mike last year thinking I didn't need it anymore but dates would be nice.

I reset the ECU a few months ago, the car's my daily driver right now and I go roughly 45 miles a day. Today I was messing around in it during lunch and saw the throttle % was working but when it goes to zero it goes randomness.

I constantly get that code 45 while driving but this is the best my boost has been in some time. I'm typically going into 20lbs if not higher (the gauge I have in stops at 20) but now it's been limiting it at around 16.

What about all the other suggestions in my first paragraph?

In the rob tune thread, they recently talked about the MAP sensor maxing out around 18 PSI. Sounds like you're possibly maxing it out... although with a TD04 tune, I thought Mike had the chip limited to 17 PSI in power mode... or did you have it changed for your chip?

I tried it without the wideband, and unfortunately still the same randomness. But I did not have any special changes to the chip, just Stage 2 TD04 and 550cc injectors (STi) Here's a another screen shot! My buddy and I started messing around with the pressure switch vacuum lines and got the barometric to change to 1.0 versus the old -1.7 and of course the code 45!!

you know you can clear the specific stored codes w/o having to reset the ECU in RevScan, right?

Like connect the 2 test wires when engine's at operating temp (car off), turn to "On" position move gas pedal 50 then 100% then turn car on go 45 MPH or so in 4th (I believe) until codes are displayed or ECU is reset? Hopefully I've got that right.

Naw, way easier method with RevScan.

1) To clear specific error codes, click on the ECU -> Error codes section. Then in the error code window, right click and select clear.
2) To reset the ECU, right click on the ECU at the top of the treeview and select clear. A dialog should prompt you to turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.

That sounds too easy  I cleared the codes with revscan then I reset the ECU the old ghetto way last night and my wife took it to school today so it's got 90 miles on it now. It still has some hesitation on acceleration and the occasional really good, strong pulling acceleration with light throttle. I haven't got on it yet to see how boost is doing, and have not plugged in the comp to see if any changes on Revscan, I'll do that tomorrow after work.
