I too would love to see more pictures of what you work on, I'd put my Legacy aside to work on those machines any day!! I used that Cosworth engine pic for my desktop background at work, I'm an engineer for a gear manufacturer and that is some nice gear porn.

Hi guys, still nothing going on with the Legacy, I need to make hay when the sun shines so I have been spending weekends working in our storage building on an Indylights car with the Legacy sitting in front of it. I will post things that I hope will keep you guys checking in once in a while. I think work will start again in a couple of months but I have the Indy Lights car and as soon as that is finished I will be getting an 87 March Indycar to get running and prepare for a couple of events

Above pictures are from a Ferrari F1 engine we rebuilt a few years ago. We had it back last year for a check and adjusted valve clearences!

The gear assembly on some of these engines are very complex specially the compound gears on the Cosworth

Image
The Cosworth DFV F1 engine initially had problems breaking the drive gears so the second compound gear pictured was designed and solved the issues of breaking gears due to valvetrain harmonics

Image
Ferrari dealt with the issue in their early F1 engine by adding the rubber pieces

Awesome pics!

Glad to see I'm not the only one to use blue painter's tape on engine builds to cover the holes/openings. :)

Thanks, I will kkeep trying to post pictures that are interesting from things I have been involved in, at the moment The pictures have been a somewhat Ferrari themed so I will keep along that theme and post a few tonight from Schumachers F1 cars most of these are the type of photos most will have never seen before unless you have seen some of my threads on Impreza forum but I have recently taken more detailed pictures better than before that I need to upload which I have never posted...... Anyway here are a few F1 Schumacher Ferrari pics I took.

Very cool, I like seeing the relatively exotic designs used in race cars and with brands like Ferrari throughout the years. I mean how cool is a flat 12?

Also cool to see the gear designs, its hard enough thinking about ratio, loading, packaging and the basics, but designing around valvetrain harmonics must be excruciating.

Seeing that modern F1 car has me looking forward to F1 coming to New Jersey, have thought about going to Montreal to experience F1 but never pulled the trigger.

Yes, very cool!

When F1 came back to the states to Indy around 2000 I actually won two free tickets to the Indianapolis Grand Prix. It was a sweepstakes through Enkei wheel. I never got to go because I didn't know I won. I was going to college at the time, and the tickets got mailed to my uncles, no other notification. By the time I went back to my uncles, the race had already passed! It sucked.

F1 is coming to Austin. I don't know if they're planning on having the race in 2012 or 2013....I'm going to guess it'll be 2013.

Hi, for those who are interested in Motorsport and the photos I have taken of racecars and engines here is a link to a thread on a Forum in New Zealand where I have posted a lot of pictures of Indycars Formula one and rally cars
Some will be on here already but there are also pictures from when I worked in open wheel racing. There are some good photos here for you all rather than Hi Jack this thread any further with my interests :)

Speaking for myself, I am more than happy to let you hi jack this thread with all your pictures of drool inducing mechanical art. I doubt many would argue otherwise.

We just bought a forester XT for my wife to drive so now we have four Subarus
Here is photos of our cars

Our Impreza 22B which lives with family in N.Z

And a photo of our 05 STI and the Legacy before it was pulled down for a complete rebuild
I hope to make the forester look like this when we are done
We will paint the wheels gold and tint the windows and add the lip spoiler and change the badges on the grill and it should look great

It is such an amazing car to drive, it feels very small compared to both the Legacy and the 05 STI, it has extremely quick response to steering input and great power, although my 05 is very good in that area, it probably feels stronger with the Torque of the 2.5.
The 22b is amazing with it acceleration though and it's surprising when you look down to see how fast you are going, normally quicker than I thought when I really got on it hard, it's a little deceptive. I guess the coolest part is the looks of it, those big wide fenders, what a feeling it is to drive up in the hills of N.Z in a car like that.....so much fun and all I could think was man I actually own and driving a 22B. Unfortunately I have only been down to NZ once since I bought it so that does suck that I don't get to see it and drive it on a regular basis

Thanks, soon enough I will be back working on the Legacy, I have a set of Cosworth rods comming in a week or so and then I will be getting a set of CP pistons made so there will be some engine build detail comming up soon. I also need to crack check crank and I think I will have it rem finished. It is a Stock RA crank but It will be fine for the 300 to hopefully 350 HP that I am aiming for with a max of 8000 rpm the goal(will set cut out at 8200 rpm)

This thread and a friend just coming back from Australia, plus New Zealanders and Australians I've met have me wondering why the hell I still live in the US.

Those things look so nice it is almost a shame to put them inside a motor.
