TMIC y pipe solution idea
ive been collecting my parts for BSODS method of fitting the 06 tmic to my wagon... i have been thinking of ideas to simplify the y pipe and eliminate the need to extend the left "y" arm to reach the intercooler inlet. i was thinking of just welding an extension on the end of it so that it reaches the end of the samco y pipe?? its cast aluminum but it is weldable. that would negate the need for two more t clamps and the little piece of exhaust, and the straight silicone extension. thoughts?
Re: TMIC y pipe solution idea
I think if you can weld something comparable on there, sure I think it's a good idea. I think finding someone that can weld cast aluminum may be the more difficult part.

What turbo is it? I'm sure it will devalue the turbo a lot if you decide the sell it in the future but if it's just something cheap like a TD04, do it!

I think he's talking about welding the piping/fitting on the intercooler, not the turbo....but I could be wrong.

yeah thats right, just one of the inlet tubes from the tmic. i think it would work, it would just be a matter of getting a nice bead that was completely air-tight. we'll see, and ill try to get pics up as soon as i get back to school monday
Re: TMIC y pipe solution idea
Can you even weld cast aluminum? Not you specifically I mean in general.

Re: TMIC y pipe solution idea
In that case, not a bad idea, might be kind of difficult to get everything lined up just right though.

Re: TMIC y pipe solution idea
yeah, ive welded it a little bit. havent you seen people weld 90 degree elbows on compressor housings? its done often.
i dont think lining stuff up is all that critical. i just need to find come alum. tubing with a similar ID. i just want to make sure it will clear everything, which it will i believe, this setup will be less bulky than the extra couple of t clamps used on BSODs method.
