Annoying tick

Post by slipknot51 »

So recently i have started to noticed that i am getting a ticking noise coming from the engine. the ticking do's increase with engine rpm. I did check my oil level and it was at the add mark on the stick so i topped of the oil and the tick went away for a maybe a half hour or so then came back. I am almost positive that it might be one of my lifters since the previous owner only drive it to and from work which was maybe a 1/4 mile away and now she is running marathons. I did put new oil/filter in to the car once i got it running and then again when i ended up doing the head gaskets which was maybe 250 miles ago. I did change the oil/filter again just a day ago took it for a spin had the ticking noise for a little while then when away but sure enough after driving for awhile the ticking comes back again.

You may have some sludge in one of the lifters. You could try running seafoam in the oil for a couple minutes before changing the oil. If that doesn't help, you can pull the lifter assembly out and bleed the lifters. If you have a collapsed lifter you should be able to determine that and get another one.

Yeah i ended up changing the oil and filter in the car to see if that made any difference and ran and drove it for like a hour and it did go away wake up the next morning and started it up and started ticking again. Now though the tick is gone for now. As for the seafoam i have also hear that you could sub it out and use AFT for a few minutes and that works to from what i hear. Im just thinking that i got some dust or something in the lifter when i pulled the head and valve cover to change the head gasket

So i have a question now. The ticking has seem to come back and since i have to remove my valve covers any way i was thing about replacing the hydraulic lash adjusters but i am looking at the engine parts manual that i downloaded and i see that they have two different part number's is there different lash adjusters for both exhaust and intake the first part number is 13230 AA110 in the manual its discription is adj cp-valve Lash and the second part number is 13396 AA000 O-Ring-adj valve.

The first number is the lash adjuster and o-ring that comes with it. The second number is just the o-ring if you need to replace it. If you want the entire lash adjuster use the first part #, 13230AA110.
