H6 battle: 3.3 vs 3.0

Post by JasonGrahn »

Anyone have any SAE or otherwise technical documentation on either of the H6 engines - preferrably the new 3L? I've got alot of info on the 3.3 and i'm looking to do some comparisions...

No 2.7? Your so mean! I think Nasioc forums, conversions specificially might have the most information.

If you think a bored out 2.5 to 2.7 would be fun, imagine a 3.3L bored out to 3.5 or greater. With proper work production of an h6 4L COULD theoretically be possible. I'll leave the rest up to speculation. Anyone have the docs i'm lookin for?

Not much documentation here. But off the top of my head- Outback h6 212 hp- SVX 228 hp. I've driven both, the 3.0L Outback h6 is a little smoother ie more refined. But since the SVX has more power it gets my pick :D . Both use 91 octane so there's no advantage between the two there. the 3.3L SVX is proven reliable, The outback seems to be doing well. A few more years will tell.

I remember reading an SAE article about the new H6 and some of it's new design features......I however don't remember where that was.....don't know if it had the info you're looking for.....I'll snoop around and see what I can dig up.

I think the only place your gona find that kind of info on the EZ30 is if you take one apart and measure for yourself. I'v heard stories about turboed 3.0L's from Cobb and such but wonder how well they will really hold up in the end. But, does anyone know how well the 3.0L will fit into our engine bays? It's suppost to only be like 1/2 longer than the EJ25, and 3.0L's has more potential than even 2.5L. Hmmm, maybe a 600 to 700hp. Turbo EZ30 in my Legacy.
92 SVX 6 speed, 165 shot NOS, Koni GC
91 Legacy S.S. FMIC, TD04 (so what?)
90 Legacy wagon (Beater)
92 Loyal monster wagon (EJ22) and 30" tires.
78 BRAT (EJ22T comming)

I blow s@#t up.

I believe someone on NASIOC put an EZ30 into an Impreza and detailed the instal.
