I used corner weighing scales on my 91ss

I put my 91 5mt sport sedan on the corner balance scales. The only changes from stock are:
Both sunvisors are not installed (mounts are still in place)
Plastic engine cover removed
2002 WRX 16x6.5 wheels with 205/55r16 Bridgestone RE960AS Pole Position
No spare tire (still have jack and factory tools)
Glove box full of paperwork, umbrella and bottle of oil in trunk
Full oil, coolant, 1/3 wiper fluid, 1/3 gas


I left my spare tire at home so I weighed the car a second time with a 32 pound 175/70r13 wheel and tire.



My feeling is that relocating the battery against the seat back and next to the right rear strut tower would really help the balance of the car (and move weight closer to the pivot point of he car)

Edit: The numbers between the weights are percentages comparing the opposite side (front to back, left to right etc)

Have you factored in you weight though?

I did factor in my weight when deciding on the optimal battery location.
If I get some free time Ill try to disconnect the battery and put it in that spot and weigh the car while sitting in the drivers seat.

Interesting numbers. I have a picture of my rally car weight with a full cage in it on each corner too. I'll try to upload the picture when I get home since I am at work right now, but the numbers are as followed:

LF: 843 ......... RF: 800
LR: 618 ........ RR: 630
.........Total: 2891........

That is with a full roll cage, racing seats, stripped interior, battery relocated behind the driver seat, rear crash beam removed, front crash beam stripped of unnecessary weight, coilovers, 15" rally tires/wheels, and front door cards still in there. I was not sitting in the car, but the balance shouldn't change terrible except maybe front to back since I always have a co-driver who is of similar weight (I am up about 15lbs on him).

Looking to drop another 200lbs by stripping the doors, lexan windows, cutting out the rear deck, cutting out the support structure for the hood and the trunk, as well as removing any excess wiring when I redo the whole harness.

Now that I think about it....since these cars are likely originaly designed for RHD markets, whose to say that the weight distribution is not also optimized for RHD markets. I think it would be interesting to see what the numbers do with only somone in the passenger seat. I know that doesn't take into account the dash and other changes, but it'd be interesting to see. It may not make a big difference since you've got dash, steering wheel, etc to move to the right side as well.

From the shop. They are cool but often cost $1-2k. Even though they are aluminum it is difficult to carry more than two at a time since they are so heavy. If you go for wired units it is cheaper but the wireless ones I used are about 1600 http://tinyurl.com/7jj4ajc

Nice weight! Seems like you need to lengthen the RF spring slightly.

New weights while I'm sitting in drivers seat in text format (easier to compare). These scales seem to have +-1 pound margin of error which can be shifted around by shaking the car.

With battery in standard location

With battery in next to right rear strut tower against back seat

Realize this is on old suspension (rubber between springs and perch) that isn't adjustable. Coilovers could tame some of the weird weight shifting. Now that I look at all the numbers it seems the best location for the battery might be on the LEFT rear strut tower.

About the same weight as my 2nd gen. Think it was 3070 or something.

If you just want a weight, any truck scale on the side of the highway will do that for you. If you are wanting corner weights, usually only race shops have that kind of equipment.

This thread reminded me that I need to get my car corner balanced soon.
