Mufflers

Post by Gus »

Ok... back to the subject...

Disregard whether or not these $20 mufflers are worthwhile (IMO, for $20, why not give it a shot? That doesn't ever cover a bar tab) is there some place that I can actually order (or pick up) one that is ready to actually *bolt on* to my existing stock Turbo Legacy exhaust?? That never seems to get covered/answered on this board. I no longer have easy access to a welder or a custom muffler shop, so getting a universal muffler and having it fabbed up to fit isn't an option for me right now. I would like to replace my stock muffler soon since one of the damn tips fell off and looks like sh*t.

I would prefer to pick up a decent quality entire bolt-on turbo-back system, but that seems to be out of the question if I'm not willing to spend $1500+.

Thanks,

Dave

no it sure doesn't look like it will be a direct bolt up....

you're most likely not going to find a bolt up muffler....

Yeah yeah... I know. We've already discussed it, but I figured that I would throw it out on the board.... since they always make it sound so easy.

Do a search for a 1st gen. axle back. I'm almost positive I've seen them. A 2nd gen. axle back may work also. In terms of a turbo-back for the Legacy turbo, the only company I know of that even offers one is CES
( www.msr-usa.com ). They were $1,100-1,300 but last I looked they went up to $1,600! :( I run the Street addition and will say they kick ass but I got mine for free because I won it at the SCCA STPR. :D I think the Rallitek guy was saying he would maybe put some TBE systems together from removed STI systems so you may want to check with them. =)

CES

Post by Gus »

Thanks... yeah, I read your posts about your free CES system (that rules!) and I checked out their website and it looks like a really nice system.... but, yeah, $1600 :( No thanks.

I think the 2nd generation Legacy axle back probably will fit because I have a spare stock muffler from a '97GT that looks pretty much exactly the same as my stock muffler, other than the single tip. I wouldn't mind replacing mine with that one, but it appears that the tubing is slightly smaller than the early turbo muffler. Could just be my eyes playing tricks on me though (does anyone know??).

I'm not familiar with the Rallitek guy, but I'll look around....

Thanks,

Tubing most likely is smaller. The turbos had some pretty beefy exhaust size for stock.

It wont fit exactly, I think one of the hangers needs moved, the tips aren't long enough and the pipe that its connected to is a little too short.
