Steering Wheel Swap Issue

I'm swapping in a Gen2 steering wheel into my '93 Tleg. Everything fits fine (minus the airbag connector) but the outer plate of the clock spring has 2 pins that go into the steering wheel so the signal lights turn off after you turn. These don't match up with the gen 2 steering wheel.

What do I do?

Get a Gen2 clockspring. It should be plug'n'play, but your airbag if equipped will not work. Might have to do some finagling on the horn and cruise wiring, I know I did but I had an odd situation anyway.

My 94 SS has a 98 Outback clock spring and an 02 WRX steering wheel.

Also does it matter from what model? Or just any gen 2 clockspring should work?

Well, I know that they were compatible up until '98 at least. Aside from that, I couldn't tell ya.

When I took the wheel from my 96 LEgacy to put on the girls 92. The airbag connectors were the same. So why would they not work?

However I ran into the clock spring issue. Which when I put my 02 WRX wheel in I was told I needed a 98 or newer clock spring to make my horn and cruise work. Also to make the blinkers turn off. But they were wrong. However the airbag won't work because the air bag connectors are different.

OK, here's what I know. All the dash side connectors on the clock spring except the airbag did not change at least from 90-99.

Locating pin interchange on the wheel/clockspring:
90-94
95-06+

Airbag generations:
92-94 - early
95-97 - middle
98-04+ - late

So a newer wheel will work with any clockspring that's 95+ and the cruise/horn/signal/wiper plugs will plug in and work. The airbag will not work in any case, even if the plug is the same. This is not according to my own knowledge, it's only what I've read. The only combo I have experience with is 94 Legacy, 98 clockspring and 02 WRX wheel. The airbag definitely did not work in my case.

So Baddog, you may be right about the airbag working with a 96 wheel on a firstgen but from what I've read that wouldn't even plug in. I think that if it happens to plug in with the same plug as the firstgen clockspring that it will work since the plug is supposed to change with the airbag type so you cannot plug an improper airbag into a wrong controller.
