Mp3 player recommendations

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for mp3 players.

I don't want hard disk ones. I want at least 256mb of flash memory.

So far I haven't found any that is small and has ALL the features. I don't care about voice recorder or fm radio.

It'd be nice to have one that has direct interface with the OS and doesn't need extra software.

There's three I'm looking at now....but none of them have all the features...

suggestions?

I suggest not getting a solid state unit unless you REALLY want a small one. MP3 players that take a cd with MP3 written to them are FAR better, especially since you can carry many gigs of MP3 in a very small place and switch the music you listen too. You can get players that have nearly the same diameter as a cd and 1/2 inch thick. I got one for my wife for 50 dollars (she brakes things easy, nothing fancy for her)

I had a couple memory stick or smart media units but ended up selling them on ebay. Blank CD'S compared to the cost of additional memory really makes the difference.

The reason I want one is so I have some music to listen to, and don't have to listen to the crap the health club plays.

Because I want it to work out with, I want it to be small.....If I didn't want it while working out I'd just stick with a cd player.

I just purchased an mp3 player on ebay about three weeks ago and for me, it's perfect for working out. It's an RCA Lyra and it's been great. It comes with 128Mb memory wich equates to about 2 hours of music but it also has a memory slot so you can add more memoryif needed. It came with a nifty little armband so it leaves your hands free to exercise and has the behind-the-ear clip headphones. I run with this thing alot and it has yet to disappoint me. It only takes one AAA battery. Hope this helps.

I found it used on ebay for around $40-50 last summer and it came with a 64MB & 128MB Smartmedia card (which my digi also uses, so it was a factor in my decision). It's small (a little smaller than a deck of cards), uses 1 AA battery (I use a nimh rechargeable and it lasts probably 6-8 hours) and has taken a beating and held up well. It does require software installation (which I agree sucks), but most of them probably do. I tried just throwing MP3s on the card via my card reader, but it didn't work. The Creative Labs software isn't too bad and does have some decent features though. I use it to rip CDs, etc.

That's about all I know about MP3 players. CD players with MP3 decoders are nice. I have a Blaupunkt MP3000 in my 911 as well as a DVD player that can decode MP3s and they're pretty sweet, but who wants that big of a 'walkman'? That's just a little too bulky for carrying around. The MP3 'jukeboxes' that utilize hard drives are nice, but I would be concerned about losing the drive from abuse. Besides, that, last time I checked, they were still pretty pricey.

hey, my bro recently picked up an iRiver iFP-390T, its about $200 US and it has FM tuner, 256mb, voice recorder, "real time mp3 encoding" and only uses like 1 battery (doesn't wear out too fast though)
does require extra software though

also, some guy at Anandtech recommended a 20GB Creative Zen Jukebox MP3, quoting a price of around $230

I just got a Creative Nomad MuVu tonight, and it seems to work great. It is only 128MB, but that is enough for me, they say I can put 4 hours of music on it, but all I can get is about 2 hours...

LaureltheQueen: Im sure, she is weak so I have to filter what she sees. Id rather purchase 4 50$ cd players that can be lost or broken without worry than a 150$ unit she will be afraid to carry.
Funny thing is she is alot older than I.
