why wont my car run? HELP!
okay did a lot to the car over winter, last year was 22t block 25d heads td05 cleaned and tested ej20k injectors and rob tune
now its 22t block, 25d heads, 20k cams, 257 valve springs, gt30, 20k injectors, rotated manifold, parallel fuel lines, aftermarket FPR, 38mm ewg, oil cooler, retuned rob tune
every vac line was replaced with new stuff and ziptied tight, new intake manifold gaskets
now the car starts decently but will only idle if the throttle screw is turned out and if i rev it up it will die
with the throttle screw out the vac is around 16/17 and the a/f ratio is around 10.9 at 49psi fuel pressure or 12.6 at like 20psi
any thoughts?

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
My thoughts would be the cams in those heads. The turbo is pretty big, but that should not affect idle.
sadly, because you did so much at once, it will be hard to track down the specific issue.

Yes I have too many Subarus
No you can't have one

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
my brother did the same cams and valve springs in the same heads at the same time and his isnt having any trouble
as you said the turbo should not stop it from idleing

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
I'd check your timing belt to make sure the marks are lined up properly.
Is the check engine light on by any chance?

yeah i woudnt believe ity to be cams
they are running great in my car
as long as timing marks are correct

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
the car will run good and sound strong when i 1st fire it up, but as soon as it gets warm or i touch the gas it starts to have a hard time idling and gets SUPER rich
here is everything ive changed/tried
checked timing, good, installed a new belt for the hell of it, still timed good
put the intake manifold back (not rotated any more)
tried two different stock FPRs
back to stock fuel lines under the manifold
tired stock rails and injectors
new coil pack
new plugs
new wires
different maf
changed every sensor on the strut tower
different iacv
different throttle body/tps
new intake manifold gaskets, iacv gaskets, throttle body gaskets
changed wiring harness under the manifold
changed fuse box
checked compression warm, 120psi on ever cylinder (the most even ive ever seen haha)
my brothers ej20 ecu and wiring conversion harness
checked ohm's on the coolent temp sensor, same as a known good one
no intercooler pipes, right from turbo to TB (to make sure no vac leaks)
all the vac lines everywhere with zipties so they are not leaking
there is honestly nothing left to try that i can think of

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
A/F at idle on start up was around 11.5 (his car has always ran rich at idle)
once warm A/F would drop to 10.1 or less (gauge only reads to 10.0)
open throttle ~4000rpm under no load was around 11.6
revs up fine but as soon as you close throttle it almost stalls from flooding out and runs rough at 10.1 a/f
might help

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
I know you said you measured the resistance of a known good coolant temp sensor, but did you try replacing it? Sometimes they will test ok, but still be bad. Based on everything you've tried, if you haven't tried replacing it, I'd try that and check the resistance of the wiring from the coolant temp sensor to the ECU.

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
heres an other oddity, took the intake off the turbo and hooked it up to my TB bypassing the turbo and the problem went away
Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
just a couple shots in the dark, that's a tough one with that many changes, it could be multiple issues
restriction in the intake? When doing all the work did you stuff a rag somewhere to keep it clean and forget about it? Turbo fins are clear of debris?
u changed the iacv but both are old probably/possibly dirty, is there a coolant land on those iacv's?
when you checked ohms on the coolant temp sensor did you do it while heating it up in a pot of water watching it over the stove?
are the cam gears in the right locations, not timing marks but the actual gears mounted to the appropriate cams, I swear I saw that on a forester once.

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
well i think its fixed, it was from my maf being too close to the turbo and straight with no bends
made a 8" long pipe with a 90* bend and it seems all good now

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
Air reversion through the MAF will cause it to meter much more air than is actually being ingested and inject far too much fuel. Makes sense. Good find.

Re: why wont my car run? HELP!
maf's can really suck like that.... what size injectors are you using? 550's will max out quick with a gt30 sized turbo.
